We have another foster from Green County Humane Society with us who is seeking his perfect human companion ☺️
Mardi isn’t a stranger to us or to us or to GCHS. Previously adopted and in a very loving home, unfortunately the dynamic was just not favorable for Mardi or his family so we helped support their very hard decision to find him a more suitable home by offering to foster him to keep him out of the shelter environment.
🐶 Mardi LOVES to play and loves the company of other dogs!
🐶 He previously went through 3 weeks of board & train where we focused on basic obedience, leash walking, manners in the home, and building confidence and comfort in triggering moments of excitement (door bells, delivery trucks & drivers, guests, etc)
🐶 Mardi loves long walks & hikes!
🐶 Car rides are also very enjoyable for Mardi
🐶 Potty trained, crate trained, and very good with place work!
🐶 loves doggie daycare
🐶 loves learning new things, working on his obedience and commands, and putting his brain to work!
🐶 food motivated and not picky!
🐶 frequent flyer at the city dog park
🐶 we have been working on e-collar training for more off leash reliability and to continue to learn new things!
• Like many dogs we see, Mardi does present with some insecurities in certain situations. He can be slow to trust and warm up to strangers and new people - primarily in his home environment. Upon new people approaching him, he does best with simply being ignored and coexisting until he is ready for acknowledgment and engagement. Unfortunately, his signals under stress have been ignored in previous situations which have resulted in Mardi resorting to biting out of fear and discomfort. His previous owners and i have had lengthy discussions on how making different choices in said scenarios would’ve completely avoided that outcome for Mardi but that severed the trust amongst everyone 😕
• Mardi thrives on consistent structures and knowing the rules around him. He’s very compliant and willing to do just about anything you ask! I think his confidence will soar under the right ownership of someone who is happy to provide him just that. He doesn’t need anything overly complicated or complex, someone to simply say “yep, that’s good buddy!” Or “no. We’re not doing that”.
• He loves his crate! He is most comfortable crated while his humans are not around, if guests are visiting, at bedtime, and for nap time throughout the day - he’ll even put himself in his crate to rest ☺️
• He has been around my children quite a bit. Although he’s not overly social with them, he tolerates their presence. Again, if they ignore him, he doesn’t care. However, he may be best in a home with older kids.
We will continue with his training and growth for as long as he’s here. I am more than happy to share any additional information regarding Mardi, his history, or any more details that I feel will benefit Mardi and his future with any interested adopters!
We are hopeful that Mardi’s perfect family is out there and awaiting him 💚
