Kermit and Diane (Roell) Paris started in the alpaca business with 8 registered Huacaya alpacas during the summer of 2012. Originally located at Shelbyshire Farm (Diane’s childhood home) in Shelbyville, IN ( Shelby County) they recently moved December of 2015 near Milroy, IN (Rush County). They changed the nam

e of their business to Clifty Creek Alpacas since their property sets on the edge of the north branch of Clifty Creek. The main focus is to provide fiber and handmade yarns and products made from the fiber of their animals. They do not breed for selling purposes but do sell some of the older alpacas as pets or for fiber purposes. As of February 2016 they have 11 Huacaya and 1 Suri alpaca. Diane enjoys working with the alpacas since she has always lived around animals. She was raised on a dairy farm in Shelby County and spent a lot of time outdoors helping with the chores. Her craft ability comes from the desire to learn new things, which her mother enjoyed too as well as from being an active 4-H member. After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in the area of Vocational Home Economics Education and then receiving her Master’s from IUPUI in Special Education she worked at Shares Inc. teaching independent living skills for several years. She changed careers in 1992 working for Purdue Extension as a Consumer and Family Sciences Extension Educator at Fayette, Franklin and Union Counties then in 1998 went to Decatur County as County Extension Director combined with Consumer & Family Sciences and 4-H Youth Extension Educator. In 2003 she left the profession field to become self-employed to start up an “in home pet sitting” business until moving in December 2015. Now her focus is working with the alpacas and making alpaca products. Kermit is employed with Indiana Farm Bureau as a Senior Regional Manager working as a liaison between Indiana Farm Bureau and county boards in Decatur, Fayette, Franklin, Rush, Shelby and Union counties to assist in the development and the implementation of programs and activities promoting Indiana agriculture. Surfacing volunteer leaders and assisting in the development of their leadership capacities as well as maintaining growth in Farm Bureau membership are some of his other responsibilities. He is also a registered state lobbyist for Indiana Farm Bureau. We have various handmade alpaca products available for sale. Give us a call at 317/695-8038 for more info.

Busy day trying to clean some of my Bluefaced Leicester sheep wool. My first time cleaning (sheep) wool. It takes extra steps to process wool versus cleaning alpaca fiber. This morning I first soaked/washed wool in Orvus to loosen up the dirt, rinsed, spun it out and loosened locks to air out. Then went to my home ec club meeting. When I got home then I washed fiber in Power Scour to get the lanolin out, then rinsed, spun water out, and loosened locks of fiber to air dry. Definitely looks white. Once dry I'm going to try using special combs to straighten fiber and pull through a diz to make a roving ready to spin. May try some wool on my carder to see how it goes. It's a new learning experience.😃 Earlier this morning I finished a skein of alpaca yarn by two plying it.

Spent the day with Kermit's oldest daughter, Emily Alcorn , making alpaca dryer balls then Emily made a floral arrangement for my parents grave while I decorated two grapevine wreaths. Emily and Kermit's other daughter, Mary Beth McMurry , gave me beautiful geraniums for Mother's Day. After Emily left then I worked at getting my tomato and bell pepper plants planted as well as my second crop of sweet corn. First planting is already up. 🌽 Busy day but a beautiful day.🌞
