Hani x Grog Babies arrived yesterday!

1 sadly was stillborn but we have 8 healthy babies! Surprised to find that Hani must carry a recessive C locus gene as we have 3 Red eye babies! Those three will either be Marten, Himilayen, or Siamese.

On quick check it appears we have:

4 Males:
2 Dumbo Black Eyes
1 Top Ear Black Eyes
1 Top Ear Red Eyes

4 Females:
1 Top Ear Black Eyes
1 Top Ear Red Eyes
1 Dumbo Black Eyes
1 Dumbo Red Eyes

Moana's babies are starting to get their color! Not knowing what Moana may carry makes it a little difficult to color id some of the martens this early but several appear lighter in color than the clear black martens.

Moana welcomed 13 healthy babies yesterday! All are chunky little ones with nice milk bands and momma rat is doing a great job caring for them!

I believe we 5 males (4 being rex), and 8 females (1 being rex). But its early so I will get a better look when they are a bit bigger.

All babies have red eyes but we won't know colors for a couple weeks. Possibilities are Himilayan, Black Marten, and maybe Blue Marten if we are lucky!

Hani has also been paired to Grog with a litter hopefully arriving in the next couple of weeks.

This pairing has the potential to produce both American Blue and Russian Blue! Also can produce Black. Will likely all be Variegated, Hooded, or Capped. Eyes: Black. Ears can be Top and/or Dumbo. All standard coats.

Moana has been paired with Grog with a litter expected in the next couple weeks.

This is an outcross pairing to bring in some new genetics to my lines.

They will produce only pink eyes. Varieties will be Black Marten, Pointed Black Marten, and Himilayan. Rex and Standard coats. All Dumbo ears.

Update on the first of our two colonies of does!

This group consists of 6 younger does that help raise weaning babies. They are housed in a Double Critter Nation.

1. Kula: 5 month old Variegated Siamese with an outstanding friendly and social temperament! One of my many favorites!

2. Kaipo: 5 month old Variegated Pointed Black Marten. Sister to Kula and a matching perfect temperament!

3. Akala: 11 month old Berkshire Pointed Black Marten Rex. Another favorite with the sweetest temperament! Mother to Kula, Kaipo, and Grog.

4. Liver: 9 month old teeny tiny Variegated Black Silvermane Rex. One of my most active and playful rats while very outgoing and social!

5. Mahina: 7 month old Berkshire Cinnamon? Marten. Not from my lines and will be used as an outcross in my program.

6. Moana: 7 month old Berkshire Mink? Marten Rex. Sister to Mahina. Expecting a litter soon!

Time for an update on who we have at our rattery since we had some changes this summer and several were retired into loving new homes!

I'll start with our Bucks! We now have 10 Bucks living at the rattery seperated into 2 colonies. These boys were all selected to stay in our program due to their outstanding temperaments. The main thing I look for in Bucks is a laid back, easy to handle, confident temperament and most importantly no hormonal aggression. These boys have no issues with fighting despite being housed right beside the females!

First colony consists of our 2 senior boys that live together in a Single Critter Nation that has been specially set up to prevent them from falling and help them safely get around as they are a bit of a special needs pair now beginning to develop some hind end weakness and vestibular issues.

1. Haupia is a Self Agouti Marten Silvermane.

2. Ulu is a Self Agouti Silvermane

The second colony consists of the remaining 8 males ranging in age from 5 months to 16 months. They live in a Double Critter Nation attached to an additional Single Critter Nation and have a Bioactive Base in the two bottom Critter Nations.

1. Captain is a Capped Black that carries Blue and the Himilayan gene.

2. PiRAT is a Self Black Silvermane Rex who lost an eye due to an injury as a baby.

3. Poa is a Self Black Silvermane Rex

4. Treasure is an Berkshire Agouti Silvermane

5. Doubloon is a Variegated Blazed Agouti Silvermane who carries Marten.

6. Sailor is a Black Blazed Variegated Rex who potentially carried Blue and/or Himilayan

7. Salty is a Hooded Black Silvermane Rex who potentially carries Blue and/or Himilayan

8. Grog is a Blue Variegated Pointed Marten
