Pedigreed Rex Buck is moving on. Milo has been a fantastic guy, THE best breeder, but is a little on the small side for my breeding program. He is gentle on the ladies and always (I mean always!) gets the job done. He is not a true chinchilla (Cchd) as his pedigree states, but actually sable chinchilla (Cchl). He throws beautiful colors. Tons of his offspring on sight, including his 9lb daughter who i will be keeping! I’ll be sad to see him go, but I need the cage space. $75 Milford, De

Lavender season is here! Come see us at Abbotts & Oak Farms from 9-2, shop our homemade, small batch products, and cut your own bundle of fresh lavender!

Hey friends! We’re so excited to welcome you to the farm for You-Cut Lavender! One of our favorite times of the year. If you’re planning to come out, here are a few tips to help you have a smooth, beautiful visit:

🌸 Come Early for the Best Blooms
Mornings are cooler, calmer, and full of that fresh lavender scent. It’s a peaceful way to start your day.

🐝 Our Honey Bees love the lavender as much as we do, but don’t worry that is all they are interested in. That being said if you are allergic please be sure to bring the proper medication.

👒 Bring the Essentials
We recommend a sunhat, water bottle, bug spray, and comfy shoes. You’ll be walking through the field, and it can get toasty by midday.

✂️ We Provide the Snips
No need to bring your own tools. We’ve got you covered! Our team will show you just how to cut for a healthy plant and a full bundle.

📸 Don’t Forget Your Camera
The fields are dreamy this time of year. Snap a few shots for the memory books or to share with friends. (Tag us if you do we LOVE seeing your photos!)

🌿 Shop Lavender Goodies
After you cut your bundle, stop by the stand for our small-batch lavender products lotion bars, essential oil, sachets, soap, and more, all made with love right here at the farm.

✨ Slow Down and Soak It In
We created this space for families, flower-lovers, and friends to connect with something simple and good. Stay awhile. Breathe deep. Enjoy the lavender day!

We truly can’t wait to welcome you. Opening day is something special and we’re so grateful to share it with you.

See you soon at Abbotts & Oak!

A whirlwind last day for WEEK EIGHT!

Our Pillar for our final class of the spring session was WORK TOGETHER 💪

We learned that although we are learning to be more self sufficient, we can’t truly do everything on our own. We need a team! We talked about who is on our team and how they help us, and how we can help them too!

The bumblebees practiced team yoga with Miss Brooke, while the hornets had a team Lego building contest.

We then harvested the vegetables in our gardens that we grew. Look at those turnips!!

We wrapped up making a teabag to take home from our dried herbs, and painting rock bugs.

I’m so thankful to have spent the spring with each one of you. We hope you will join us this summer at Abbotts and Oak farms for our lavender and flowers season, and come back for more Homesteading in the fall! Stay tuned for dates and details. See you soon at the farm!

WEEK 7

Today was a busy class! Our pillar today is “Reduce Waste”. We talked about how everything we throw away costed us either money or time, so it is important to reduce how much we waste, not just for the environment, but for us too!

We started by creating a beautiful pollinator friendly garden bed under some of our fruit trees using reclaimed materials that were headed for a landfill. Everyone pitched in, got their hands dirty, and helped mulch those beds!

Then, while Miss Brooke taught an object lesson on packaging waste, Mr. Peck helped small groups at a time build teamwork by doing a trustfall together. We wrapped up the day with Mrs. Peck teaching us how to make our very own beeswax food wrap to replace plastic wraps and ziplock bags.

Thank you so much to everyone who pitched in to make today so much fun. 🤩

WEEK SIX CATCH-UP POST!

Oh we had such a great time last week talking about preserving food, and the many exciting methods we can use to do so! Drying is one easy way, and Miss Alyssa showcased her beautiful lavender bundles, dried and preserved from last years harvest. Even a year later they smell sooooo good! But the hit of the day was making pickles! Each child customized their own jar of sliced cucumbers with spices, then added pickling salt and vinegar to preserve. Many jars didn’t even make it home, they were so good 🤣

Yesterday we had a fantastic class, WEEK 5 🖐️, I can’t believe it!

We opened up meeting Marbles the Rooster. Many kids shared that they had never pet a rooster or even seen one up close before.

Our pillar of the week was Using Animals to Help. We talked about many useful animals that homesteader may keep, like dairy or meat animals, egg laying hens, even dogs and cats to help protect the homestead.

We then broke up into the hives to talk specifically about the work chickens do on the homestead, and how to care for them. The bumblebees set up a brooder for our baby chicks, while the hornets prepped a chicken tractor for our meat birds and helped them get cozy in their new moveable coop.

A quick visit to the gardens and to see the piggies and then we gathered to make cute animal themed planters with our own succulent to take home!

Only three weeks left in this session, stay tuned for summer happenings and fall dates for our upcoming programs!

📸 Thank you Kaylee Ebert, Brooke Rodriguez, and Alyssa Peck for capturing some precious moments 🙂
