It is always devastating to lose a pet.
We don’t expect that loss to be played out over and over again in the silence.
It’s the noise of their tags that we think we hear.
No more welcoming committee at the door.
The insistent meows for dinner are gone.
We would give anything to hear the incessant barking out of the window that used to drive us crazy.
We miss the heavy breathing that comes with the nudge to wake us for breakfast.
We mourn the gentle purr when we stroke their fur.
We even grieve the grumble when they are bothered by our noise, affection or mere presence.
Yes, the absence of noise plays over and over again in the silence of our home as we remember each moment.
We miss the noise whenever we lose a pet.
Then there are those whose spirits shine so bright that the silence becomes as loud as thunder…….
To all of those wonderful creatures who fill our homes with noise.
