🚨 NO DAYCARE THIS THURSDAY! 🚨

And for a VERY exciting reason… šŸ‘€

THE NEW PROPER PUP BUILDING IS BEING DELIVERED FRIDAY!! šŸŽ‰šŸ¾šŸ

We’ll be spending Thursday prepping the property and getting everything ready for its arrival, so there will be no daycare Thursday, August 13th.

I seriously cannot believe we’re finally at this point. 😭 This building has been talked about, planned, stressed over, changed approximately 47 times šŸ˜‚ā€¦ and now it’s ACTUALLY HAPPENING.

Thank you guys for being patient with me through all the changes that come with growing Proper Pup. This next chapter is getting very, very real. ā¤ļø

Storm rolling through? No problem. šŸŒ§ļø

This is Scout and Piper enjoying some quiet time under the patio while the rain passes.

Not every moment of board and train is about learning new commands. Some of the most important lessons happen during the ā€œboringā€ moments… learning to relax, settle, and simply exist in different environments.

Confident dogs aren’t created by constant activity. They’re created by learning that the world doesn’t always require a reaction.

Sometimes the best training session is just sitting together and listening to the storm. 🐾

🐾 Welcome, Scout! 🐾

Everyone help me welcome Scout to Proper Pup! ā¤ļø

Some of you may recognize his sister, Piper, who’s currently here for her Board & Train. Scout and Piper aren’t just housemates… they’re actual littermates!

One question I get asked from time to time is:

ā€œWhy don’t you train dogs from the same household at the same time?ā€

The answer is simple… because I want each dog to have the opportunity to succeed as an individual.

When dogs have lived together their entire lives, they often become very dependent on one another. By staggering their Board & Trains, each dog gets the chance to:
🐾 Build confidence independently.
🐾 Develop a stronger relationship with their handler.
🐾 Learn new skills without relying on the other dog.
🐾 Grow into their own individual.

By the time Piper heads home next week, she’ll have the opportunity to show Scout everything she’s learned. Then Scout will continue his own training journey and develop those same skills and confidence.

I’m excited to watch Scout grow over the next few weeks. Welcome to the Proper Pup family, buddy! ā¤ļøšŸ¶

If this is what qualifies as a monster these days, I think I’m doing alright.

Thanks so much for the surprise! I truly have the best clients… and some pretty adorable ā€œmonsters.ā€ šŸ¶šŸ’š

🐾 Calling All Tri-State Pet Care Professionals! 🐾

As Proper Pup continues to grow and evolve over the coming months and years, I’m looking to build a network of trusted pet care professionals throughout the Greater Cincinnati Tri-State area that I can confidently refer clients to when needed.

I’m looking for reputable:
• Boarding facilities
• In-home pet sitters
• Other quality pet care providers

If you own a business or know someone who does, tag them in the comments! I’d love the opportunity to connect, learn more about their services, and see if they may be a good fit for Proper Pup clients.

My goal has always been to make sure every dog receives the care that’s best suited for them, whether that’s here at Proper Pup or with another trusted professional.

Please note: Being tagged or reaching out doesn’t automatically mean I’ll be referring clients. Any recommendations I make will be based on getting to know the business, their standards of care, and whether I believe they’re a good fit for the dogs and families I serve.

I can’t wait to connect with more amazing pet professionals in our community! ā¤ļøšŸ¶

Every dog has a starting point. 🐾

This was Piper’s very first public outing after starting her Board & Train.

The goal wasn’t perfection. It wasn’t even obedience.

The goal was to observe.

I wanted to see:
• How confident she felt in a new environment.
• What made her uncertain.
• How she handled distractions.
• Whether she looked to me for guidance.
• Where we should begin.

One thing I noticed was that Piper was actually quite confident while she was moving. Most of her uncertainty showed up when we stopped walking. That’s valuable information because it tells me exactly where to focus her training.

Dog training isn’t about expecting perfection on Day 1. It’s about meeting the dog in front of you and creating a plan from there.

I’m excited to watch Piper’s confidence continue to grow over the next few weeks. ā¤ļø

Looking at this picture, it reminded me why I started Proper Pup in the first place…

When I started Proper Pup, I didn’t start it because I wanted to own a boarding or daycare business.

I started it because I wanted to help dogs and their people communicate better.

Over the years, boarding and daycare naturally became a bigger part of Proper Pup. As more owners trusted me with dogs that struggled in traditional boarding environments, I said yes. Then daycare grew because I wanted those same dogs to have a safe, structured place to continue learning.

I don’t regret that journey for a second. It’s helped shape Proper Pup into what it is today, and it’s allowed me to work with some truly incredible dogs and families.

But lately I’ve found myself thinking about the reason I started all of this in the first place.

Training.

Not just teaching a dog to sit or come when called, but helping owners truly understand their dogs and build better relationships with them.

Over the coming months, you’ll probably notice some changes around Proper Pup. My long-term goal is to gradually shift more of my time and energy back toward training while still providing the high level of care you’ve come to expect.

Nothing is changing overnight. This is simply the next chapter of Proper Pup.

Every decision I make moving forward will be with one question in mind:

ā€œDoes this help me better serve the dogs and the people who trust me with them?ā€

I’m incredibly excited about where Proper Pup is headed. Thank you to everyone who has supported this little dream from the beginning. You guys have made it possible for me to keep growing, learning, and building something I’m truly proud of. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

As Proper Pup has grown over the years, so have many of my clients’ dogs. ā¤ļø

I absolutely love getting to watch these dogs grow from puppies into seniors. It’s one of the greatest privileges of my job.

That said, I’ve noticed something happening more often lately. A day or two before boarding, or sometimes even at drop-off, I’m told a dog has suddenly become ill, stopped walking well, isn’t eating, or has had another significant medical change.

I completely understand that life happens and our dogs don’t always choose convenient timing. But I also have to make decisions based on what’s safest for your dog, for myself, and for every other dog staying with me.

Boarding is designed for dogs that are medically stable. While I’m happy to administer prescribed medications and accommodate routine medical needs, I am not able to provide nursing care or manage an undiagnosed or rapidly changing medical condition.

If your dog experiences a significant change in health before their stay, please let me know as soon as possible. In many cases, I may ask that they be evaluated by your veterinarian before boarding. This isn’t because I don’t want to care for them. It’s because I want to make sure they’re receiving the level of care they need, and that I’m not putting them, myself, or the other dogs in my care at unnecessary risk.

Thank you for trusting me with your dogs. One of the hardest parts of my job is recognizing when a dog’s needs have grown beyond what a boarding environment can safely provide. Making those decisions is never easy, but it’s always done with your dog’s best interest at heart. ā¤ļø

šŸ’§ Did you know adding water to your dog’s food can have some great benefits?

Hydrating kibble may:
🐾 Increase water intake
🐾 Slow down fast eaters
🐾 Support digestion
🐾 Make meals more appealing for picky dogs
🐾 Add a little enrichment to mealtime

It’s a simple change that can make a big difference for many dogs. Just another reminder that sometimes the little things matter most. 🩵

As always, if your dog has a medical condition or requires a specific diet, check with your veterinarian before making changes.
