As promised⦠All about Sultan!
Sultan is a 6 year old military macaw. He is a dnaβd male. Heβs in perfect feather and has adjusted very quickly to his new surroundings and people. Like all macaws, everything you do is about body language. If he wants up, you just say βstep upβ and he quickly lifts his foot in the air. If he doesnβt, and reaches with his beak to tell you no, then leave him be and try again a little later. Now that heβs used to me I can give him a stern βnoβ and repeat step-up and he usually does right away. When he wants to be with you, heβs not shy about it! He does his little head twist signaling you to come over, and keeps picking his foot up and is eager to step up! Macaws are different than cockatoos in the sense that they have to gain your trust (a cockatoo typically will walk out the door with a stranger if they think thereβs a chance for attention) I would expect it would take Sultan a few visits to really know and love someone. It took him about 4 days to adjust to me, and now weβre besties. β€οΈ He does seem to warm up to women quicker, but thatβs just something weβve noticed in the store. Once he really trusts you, he fluffs his little feathers, and lives for those head scratches. Sultan must go to someone with large bird experience. Someone who knows to read body language, and will give him all the love it takes for a macaw to thrive. I havenβt gotten him talking on video yet, but when he thinks nobody is listening he does this cute little βhi, hello, hiii, helllloβ like heβs practicing his βhiβs and hellosβ in different voices. π€£ unfortunately since his current owner does not live in town, they were unable to bring his cage. You must be able to provide him with a proper sized cage. Please do your research on macaws. He is on consignment, and not a surrender or free by any means. You can send us a message for details . Prepare to see lots of Sultan interactions on our page while heβs here, as weβve been having a lot of fun with him. β€οΈ
