The Critters at MCC Red Mountain Mesa Community College Red Mountain Campus has an awesome teaching collection on display.

An assortment of organisms full of the creepy crawly critters of Arizona. There also is a salt water aquarium on display that is used for biology courses. MCC’s Red Mountain campus has a large collection of native animals on display as well as a salt water aquarium. Our Cienega in the middle of campus is a wildlife refuge that contains two species of endangered fish, protected reptiles and amphibians, and a diversity of other native plants and animals.

Today is Endangered Species Day and I wanted to highlight the endangered native species we have here at Red Mountain. According to U.S Fish & Wildlife Service the Desert Pupfish, Gila Topminnow, and Sonoran Desert Tortoise are all considered endangered. Each representative of these species here on campus are contributing to the conservation efforts either directly through breeding and release, or as an educational ambassador. With the weather warming up the snakes are coming out!! Please be sure your watching your step and where you drive for your and their safety! If you do see a rattlesnake on Red Mountain campus call the non emergency line (480-461-7046) to describe where you are, and stay away!
