Caught Zahra exploring the pond on her own today, I'm thinking teaching an independent duck search may not be an issue with this one!!! She's only been swimming now 3-4 days!

That's a wrap on spring wild bird training, time to give the birdies a chance to hatch their babies and look forward to an awesome hunting season this fall!

Northern Michigan didn't give us much of a spring to work with, but the last few weeks allowed us a handful of days to get the dogs out.

Zahra ended her first wild bird exposure this spring with pointing a grouse today!!! I'm so thankful that we made it a priority to put her on some wild birds leading into summer training, even if it was only a handful of times. These birds will teach her far more than any planted bird will. She has now pointed both grouse and woodcock and I'm sure will only improve through summer and fall hunting will be a blast!!

Blaze, River, and Ellie have been troopers as I've prioritized Zahras time in the woods this spring. Ellie got the opportunity to run with Zahra today which allowed a few backing lessons and showed me Ellie needs a bit of a reminder she can't move in on the bird even if the puppy does, all in good time!

The big dogs now get the driver's seat in training as we look ahead to future tests!!

Another day of woodcock training!

Zahra, 7 months old, pointed 10 this afternoon, with a few others bumped. She's holding point much longer, still learning how scent works, and how movement/pressure causes birds to flush.

Blaze and River searched well for the few they had.

River placed 2nd with a nice grouse find in the Amateur hunting dog stake this year!

Zahra ran in her very first field trial at 6 months old, was exposed to horses, bells, and other dogs and handlers.

One month after having a baby, we are slowly getting back to "normal"

Blaze and River entered the agility trialing world earlier this year, they both earned their novice standard and novice jumpers titles.

We plan on resuming agility trials next month (we had to take a short break due to the birth of their human baby brother)
