It has been a long awaited post, but we couldn't be more excited to share that a family has adopted Arlo....and Dexter!
Arlo was always a dog that no one noticed. He wasn't pushy, hyper or loud, so he didn't stand out. He was at the shelter over a month with no interest and was added to the euthanasia list. While he was at our rescue, he received no applications for months. Then, just one... and it was perfect! For a dog who never caught anyones attention, he was exactly what this family was looking for.
They had planned on adopting two dogs and were always a fan of Boxers. Their new pups would be part of the family, going on vacations and adventures with them. Since their car wasn't big enough for two large pups, they decided they would adopt a Boxer puppy and one smaller dog. When they saw Arlo online, they thought he was perfect---a mini sized Boxer! They immediately set up a meeting and Arlo was just as enamored with them as they were of him. He had his eyes on their teenage daughter and basically forgot about us. He was already following her around and they rolled in the grass together.
The family couldn't take Arlo that day, but they had planned to welcome him home soon.
Now, here is where Dexter comes in. That evening, after Arlo's meeting, we got an email from a family needing to rehome their Boxer, Dexter! He was 6 years old and older than they were looking for, but we had to share him with Arlo's new family! Could he be the Boxer they were looking for? According to everything Dexter's owner shared, he sounded perfect!
We coordinated with Arlo's family and Dexter's family to meet with us. Even though Dexter was nervous, we could tell how sweet he was and Arlo's adopters decided to welcome him into their family, too!
Arlo instantly got a new brother and they moved into their new home together! They quickly became best friends, playing and sleeping together. These two have such a special bond, the family said they couldn't have asked for a better pair.
Even though they were looking for a puppy, Dexter suddenly popped up and they said it felt like the Universe had stepped in to show them the dog they actually needed. We had reminded them at the beginning to not feel pressured to adopt Dexter if they truly wanted a puppy, but they told us Dexter was even better! He was already neutered, trained and housebroken! Plus, he is just a special soul. He wouldn't have done well at a shelter, but he never had to enter one because he was meant to be theirs.
Arlo and Dexter will have an amazing life. The daughter created her own Etsy shop just to be able to make money to buy her dogs all the best stuff. She has already special ordered gear from Australia and is on the hunt for new rain coats in preparation for El Niño! She even made them their own pillow with their names embroidered on it! Besides those special gifts, the boys will be spoiled with love, lots of snuggles, homemade meals, endless amounts of toys and soft beds, road trips and adventures (they've already made a trip to Idyllwild, the dog park and dog beach---check out Arlo as a Sphynx), and they will always have each other to play with!
Their mom recently gave us this update: "We LOVE Arlo & Dexter!!! Life couldn’t be better!!! They really do love each other and they finally are both deeply exhaling knowing that they’ve landed their forever family."
We couldn't be more happy for all of them!
