Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness have protected the freedoms we hold dear.

The horse industry has long shared a deep connection with our nation’s military history, from the cavalry horses who served beside soldiers to the veterans today who continue to find healing, partnership, and purpose through horses.

This Memorial Day, the American Horse Council and the United Horse Coalition remember those we have lost and extend our deepest gratitude to all who have served.

May we never forget their sacrifice.

In this story of resilience, one boy’s journey through grief, anger, abandonment, and healing unfolds through the quiet, steady presence of a horse named Doc. What begins as resistance slowly becomes trust. What begins as noise becomes stillness.

Through a mental health program incorporating horses, Justin discovers something he had been missing for years: safety, connection, patience, and the courage to finally let his grief be seen.

As part of ’s mission to raise awareness of the healing power of horses, we share stories that honor the resilience of individuals and families finding hope through mental health services incorporating horses.

Please share this video to help spread awareness, and consider supporting one of the Program Partners offering these life-changing services at horsesformentalhealth.org/campaign.

Thank you to for supporting both the programs and the horses at the heart of this work.

Please join us in welcoming two outstanding new leaders to the American Horse Council Board of Trustees!

Effective June 21, 2026, Katherine Gregory, CEO of Colorado Horse Rescue, and Kimbrell Hines, founder of Equine Esquire, PLLC, will join the AHC Board of Trustees, bringing valuable expertise in equine welfare, business leadership, and legal advocacy to help strengthen the future of the horse industry.

Their diverse backgrounds reflect the broad perspectives that make our industry stronger, and we’re excited for the insight they’ll bring to the table as AHC continues advocating for horses and the people who care for them.

We’d also like to thank outgoing board members Christy Landwehr and Austin Halvorson for their years of dedicated service and contributions to AHC.
