A big round of applause to Julie Dorsey-Oskerka of Positive Solutions for a Sound Beginning for teaching us all about “Understanding the Language of Dogs”! 🐶💬

Not only did we pick up tons of helpful tips, but we also enjoyed lively conversations, laughter, and the chance to connect with our amazing members, volunteers, and even friends from other local rescues. 💛

Our recent Brunch & Bowl Fundraiser was an incredible success, and it’s all thanks to you — our amazing community of supporters! Families, friends, and golden lovers came together for a day filled with delicious food, bowling, bocce, and good times with old and new friends. We were especially delighted to see both children and adults enjoying the day, creating a true family-friendly event.

A lively silent auction and a raffle with wonderful prizes added some extra fun, while raising much-needed funds to support goldens in need. Our donor wall of Bowling Pins had names of all of you that contributed to our Fund-A-Need, which will help pay for the increasing medical costs of our rescued dogs.

A very special thank you goes to our sponsors, whose support made this event possible, along with donors, volunteers, and of course, all of you that attended to show your support.

It is with immense gratitude that due to the success of this event, we were able to generate over $52,000 to be used to further our mission. On behalf of every rescued golden and our As Good as Gold community, we thank you for making this possible!

Helping Rescue Take Flight, When Distance and Urgency Intersect.

As Good as Gold Golden Retriever Rescue of Illinois would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Pilots N Paws, a dedicated network of volunteer pilots who donate their time, talent, and aircraft to help transport rescue animals to safety.

Pilots N Paws came to the rescue yesterday for this golden mama and her 7 golden/lab puppies. We needed to get them from downstate to their future foster home upstate. Multiple of their volunteer pilots offered their time and resources to take on this challenging mission. Our wonderful pilot Damon was originally going to do this solo, but after identifying the details, he had his wife change her plans, and she came on the flight as the dog/puppy wrangler. Thanks to their support and logistical organization, rather than a stressful 5+ hour drive, this sweet family was flown to us with care and compassion. This transport not only opened the door to a new beginning for these pups, but also reminded us of the incredible power of collaboration in the rescue world.

Pilots N Paws is a true example of what happens when passion meets purpose. Their team embodies generosity in motion—literally helping dogs in need get from danger to safety, from hopelessness to healing.

To the volunteer pilots and coordinators: thank you for helping us go the extra mile (or several hundred) for the dogs we serve. Your kindness and commitment mean the world to us—and to the Goldens whose lives you helped transform.

Some dogs don’t come to us ready-made. They arrive with uncertain pasts, timid hearts, and behaviors shaped by fear, neglect, or simply never having been shown the way. But with time, love, positive reinforcement, and patience—they transform.

We are looking for passionate, dedicated dog lovers who are ready to open their homes and hearts to dogs who need just a little more. More understanding. More guidance. More grace. These dogs aren’t broken—they’re just waiting for someone to believe in them.

Many of these dogs thrive best in a solo environment—a home where they are the only canine companion, free to decompress and grow without competition or stress.

We have a special need for foster volunteers who:

* Have no other dogs in the home
* Have a fully fenced yard for safe exercise
* Spend more time at home than away
* Have training experience or the time & passion to learn alongside their foster dog

Intake Co-coordinator
Responsibilities: The Intake Co-coordinator is the first responder to families and animal shelters who wish to relinquish a golden/golden mix. In addition to collecting and documenting pertinent information needed by assessors, foster families, and applicants, the Intake Co-coordinator maintains all documents related to relinquishment and assessment.

Qualifications: Above average knowledge of golden retriever behaviors, basic knowledge of veterinary care, and ability to judge when outside assistance is necessary. Computer proficiency including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Reliable daily access to the internet, e-mail, and telephone, especially on weekends. High level of organizational skills and follow-through. Strong communication skills.

Time Requirements: This is a co-coordinator position, so time will be shared, and average 15-18 hours/week

Individual Giving Fundraising Coordinator
Responsibilities: Holds primary responsibility for donor stewardship, unsolicited giving, donor updates and acknowledgments. Coordinates As Good as Gold’s individual giving programs. Prepares fundraising content for As Good as Gold media sources

Qualifications: Prior experience with and knowledge of individual giving programs

Time Requirements: Average time commitment: 10 hours per week
