Available for Adoption 🐦💚

Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation currently has several beautiful birds looking for the right homes.

We have:

4 bonded parakeets

These babies must stay together as a flock. They are bonded and will only be adopted as a group.
Bonded pair of conures

Female pineapple conure and male turquoise conure. These two are bonded and must stay together.

Male green cheek conure

A sweet little guy looking for a patient, loving home of his own.

As always, we are looking for homes that understand these birds are not decorations or impulse pets. They need proper housing, daily care, enrichment, patience, and a long-term commitment.

If you are interested in adopting, please message us for more information. We will ask questions about setup, experience, and care plans to make sure each bird goes to the best possible home.

Located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Death is uncomfortable to think about or even speak of.but it is one thing we truly share with every living creature on the planet.
Sadly for our companion birds, it too is part of the biological contract.

This is a long read, but worth reading.
All are welcome to share their feelings or losses

💔 Helping a Bird Through the Loss of a Cage Mate

Losing a companion can be just as heartbreaking for our birds as it is for us. Parrots and other social birds form deep bonds, and when a cage mate passes, they may grieve in ways we don’t always expect.

Here are some gentle ways to support your feathered friend through this difficult time:

🕊️ Give Them Extra Attention
Spend more time near them—talk softly, sit by their cage, or offer gentle interaction if they’re open to it. Your presence can be very comforting.

🪶 Watch for Behavioral Changes
Loss can show up as decreased appetite, quietness, calling out more, or even feather plucking. Keep a close eye and consult an avian vet if anything seems concerning.

🌿 Maintain Routine
Birds thrive on consistency. Keeping feeding times, sleep schedules, and daily habits the same can provide a sense of security.

🎶 Provide Gentle Enrichment
Soft music, foraging toys, or even a TV at low volume can help fill the silence and reduce loneliness.

🤍 Respect Their Grieving Process
Some birds may want more affection, others may withdraw. Let them guide you—patience is key.

🐦 Consider a Future Companion (Carefully)
If you plan to introduce another bird, take it slow. Allow time for healing first, and always follow proper quarantine and introduction steps.

💬 You’re Not Alone
Grief is real—for both you and your bird. Take care of yourself, too.

Every bird processes loss differently, but with love, patience, and understanding, you can help them feel safe again. 💛

Most people don’t intend harm when animals are part of meaningful moments. 🤍

But stillness doesn’t always mean comfort.

Birds are highly sensitive to handling and unfamiliar situations. Even when they appear calm, their bodies may already be under stress. 🕊️

Understanding this helps us make more informed, compassionate choices—for animals who cannot express what they feel. 🐾
