Faulkner County Sheriff's Office is pleased to introduce the new Faulkner County Jail Administrator, Captain Douglas Hunter. Prior to joining the Faulkner County Sheriff's Office team, Captain Hunter served the City of Mayflower since January 1, 2017, and was promoted to Chief of Police on November 1, 2020. Chief Hunter began his law enforcement career in 1985 as a Reserve Deputy with the Conway County Sheriff's Mounted Patrol Unit. In 1993, he attended the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy as a full-time officer with the Conway County Sheriff's Department. Two years later, he joined the Morrilton Police Department as a Patrol Officer.
During his time in Morrilton, he rose through the ranks-promoted to Corporal in 1998 and then to Patrol Sergeant in 1999. As Patrol Supervisor, he oversaw patrol operations and jail facility functions while also serving as a Law Enforcement Instructor, Fi****ms Instructor, and K-9 Handler. His work included assisting with narcotics operations and criminal investigations within the department. He completed the Criminal Justice Institute's Narcotic Investigators Program in 2007 and the Police Chief Executive Development Course through the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute in 2018. He also attended the Drug Enforcement Administration's Clandestine Drug Laboratory Investigations course at Quantico, Virginia, and he attended the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF) Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings course at the New Mexico Mining and Explosives Institute. In 2012, he was honored with the Mayor's Impact Award for his outstanding dedication and contributions to the Mayflower community and the law enforcement profession.
Throughout his 31-year full-time career, he has served in patrol, community policing, narcotics, and supervisory roles. Since taking command of the Mayflower Police Department, he focused on strengthening community trust through accountability, transparency, inclusivity, and proactive community engagement. Under his leadership, the department expanded its outreach efforts with programs such as Shop with a Cop, which supports local children and families during the holidays; Cops and Bobbers, an annual youth fishing event launched in 2021; and Burgers and Badges, a community cookout first held in 2022 that brings officers and residents together.
In 2024, under Chief Hunter's leadership, the Mayflower Police Department achieved Tier Two Accreditation through the Arkansas Association of Chiefs of Police, recognizing the department's commitment to professionalism, accountability, and adherence to statewide best practices in law enforcement.
