I want to take a little time to brag about this boy. I just love getting pictures and messages about how well he is doing! At just 10 months old Huk’s first shed season is underway and he is tearing it up! He has 10 solo unassisted finds and has been apart of many assisted finds as well! You can tell Huk loves his job and loves finding those big Maine moose paddles! If you’re interested in having a dog trained for shed hunting I’d be more than happy to chat with you! I am a little late posting this but I just wanted to highlight a pup that just came through my program. I took Huk in a little earlier than normal for a friend who had a busy fall schedule. Huk is owned by Nathan Theriault at OMM Outfitters and will be tasked with finding moose sheds during the spring. We were going to be Huk’s “foster” family until moose season was over in Maine and Huk was going to go through my program while we had him.We started obedience and retrieving at around 10 weeks. Huk caught on quickly with everything I threw at him completing tasks with ease. At around 12-14 weeks old I introduced some small sheds to him and I think love is an understatement for desire he had for them. By 4-5 months old he had shed retrieval down. He has an excellent nose and was doing extremely well identifying sheds with his eyes as well. At 5 months old we incorporated a small moose shed in our training which I expected Huk to be a little timid around due to the different size and shape. Let me just say he proved me wrong on that. The determination and desire to please Huk has is truly amazing. He didn’t miss a beat and after a few days was able to pick up the moose paddle with ease. Huk was truly a pleasure to train. At 6 months old it was time for him to head to his forever family. My dad and I delivered him to the Theriault family the weekend before Christmas. To see the excitement in all of them to finally meet their pup was awesome and even though it was hard on my family I knew he was going to live an amazing life being loved and spoiled. I can’t wait to get up to Northern Maine this spring to see how Huk has grown and find some moose sheds!
