Henry 🌟
Henry is a young hound mix who previously lived with a homeless couple who loved him dearly. Earlier this year, he was rescued by his new mom, and he has proven to be one of the sweetest, most loving boys around.

His mom came to me looking for help with a few common challenges: jumping on people, stealing snacks from the kids, counter surfing, improving his recall, and adding a solid climb command to his skill set.

We got started today, and all I can say is WOW—this boy is smart! He picked things up incredibly quickly and showed so much willingness to learn. With his intelligence and his family’s dedication, I have no doubt they’ll see amazing progress over the next few weeks.

We can’t wait to watch Henry grow and succeed during his training journey. Stay tuned for updates on this handsome boy! šŸ¶ā¤ļø

This week we’re talking about a heavier subject: behavioral euthanasia, also known as BE.

It can feel taboo to talk about, and people often have strong opinions. But the truth is that sometimes behavioral euthanasia is the most peaceful and compassionate decision we can make for a dog we love deeply.

Behavioral euthanasia is the decision to peacefully end a dog’s life due to severe aggression or anxiety that has become unsafe and unmanageable. Many people may say it could have been avoided with different training techniques or a different home environment—but that often couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Families faced with this decision have usually tried everything they possibly can. They’ve committed to training. They’ve changed routines. They’ve spent thousands of dollars on trainers, behavior specialists, and medical testing. They’ve rearranged their lives trying to help their dog feel safe and successful.

And sometimes, despite every effort, there is no improvement.

Some dogs are simply wired differently. They may be genetically predisposed to severe anxiety, aggression, or both. These intractable cases are not a training issue, and they are not because someone ā€œdidn’t do enough.ā€ In many cases, these dogs are living with a brain that never allows them to truly feel safe.

Zeke and his family were victims of this heartbreaking circumstance.

His parents did everything they could—training courses, medical testing, changing their routines, and trying every avenue available to help him. Months later, there was still no change, and in some cases things were getting worse. Zeke was living in a constant state of anxiety, with no clear triggers and extremely unpredictable behaviors.

For him, this was the most peaceful decision we could make.

These dogs are not ā€œbad dogs.ā€ They are often deeply loved dogs with minds that are fighting against them every day.

So if you’ve ever had to make this decision, or you’re facing it now, or you have judged someone for it, I hope you hear this:

You are not a bad person.

They are not bad people for choosing that route.

Your dog was not a bad dog.

Their dog was not a bad dog.

You are far from a failure.

They are far from a failure.

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is give them peace when their minds won’t let them have it on their own.
Prayers for Zekes family as they go through this difficult time šŸ™šŸ¼

Bruce 🌟

Meet Bruce, our newest Board & Train friend! He’s a 5-month-old Giant Schnauzer, and if you didn’t already know… now you do—this is one of my all-time favorite breeds.

Don’t let this picture fool you—Bruce is already a big boy and has plenty more growing to do! His parents reached out before they even brought him home because they wanted to make sure he had a solid foundation of obedience and manners from the start, especially knowing he’s going to be a decent size. We got him on the Board & Train list right away, and I’m so excited to work with him over the next couple of weeks.

During his stay we’ll be focusing on climb, sit, down, recall, jumping, and counter surfing, while also helping him build confidence and learn how to make good choices.

Stay tuned for Bruce’s updates—we’re going to have a lot of fun with this handsome guy! 🐾 🐶

Mr. Enzo is back for a week-long boarding stay while his parents are out of town! Right now he’s enjoying one of his favorite activities… napping 😓

This week we’ll be adding in a couple refresher training days to brush up on his climb command and work through some barking when people come in the door. In between training sessions, Enzo will be enjoying walks around the farm and soaking up all the cuddles any chance he gets.

We’re happy to have this handsome guy back for the week! 🐾

I’ve had several people reach out for boarding over the summer and fall, and I am officially completely booked for all boarding and Board & Train spots until October 18th!

I truly cannot thank you all enough for keeping both my plate and my heart so full. The trust you place in me with your fur babies means more than you know, and I’m beyond grateful for every single family that supports my small business.

With that being said, if you are in need of pet sitting services, I highly recommend Paws & Play Pet Sitting ! She offers walks, drop-in visits, and overnight stays filled with lots of love, care, and enrichment for your pups. 🐾
If you are a client whose dog does not do well with strangers or needs some time getting comfortable, I am more than happy to walk Anna through some meet and greets with those dogs!

Rosie šŸ’«

Rosie is a young mixed breed with endless wiggles and so much love to share! If you can’t feel the excitement through this picture, you may need to look a little closer at that wiggly butt.

She has been participating in in-home lessons for some time now and is spending the week with us for some extra work on jumping, loose leash walking, and recall. We’ve already introduced the e-collar, and with how smart she is, I know she’s going to make great progress this week.

Stay tuned for Rosie’s weekly recap later this week — we can’t wait to show off all of her hard work!

This past week, I had the amazing opportunity to spend time at Holy Childhood School speaking with K–4th grade students all about dogs! We talked about how to properly approach and pet a dog, what to do if a loose dog approaches you, and the many important jobs and skills dogs are capable of.

Kylee, my shadow currently working toward becoming a trainer, joined us and showed the kids some of the awesome tricks her dog can do. The students were so engaged, and everyone was incredibly impressed!

We had such a fun time, and I’m so thankful to Holy Childhood School for inviting us in for such a special experience!
