SUMMER HEAT GOT YOU?
Heat-related illness can be a serious concern during periods of high temperatures. Normally, your body cools itself through sweating. However, in extreme heat, sweating may not be enough to maintain a healthy body temperature, leading to potentially harmful changes in blood chemistry and damage to internal organs, including the brain and kidneys.
Recognizing heat-related illnesses
🥵Heat cramps: These are painful muscle spasms, usually in the legs and abdomen, accompanied by heavy sweating.
🥵Heat exhaustion: Symptoms include heavy sweating, weakness or tiredness, cool, pale, clammy skin, a fast, weak pulse, muscle cramps, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, headache, and fainting.
🥵Heatstroke: This is a severe and life-threatening condition where the body's temperature regulation fails. Symptoms include a throbbing headache, confusion, slurred speech, nausea, dizziness, body temperature above 103°F, hot, red, dry or damp skin, a rapid and strong pulse, fainting, and loss of consciousness.
