Special Notes: Needs rescue OUTSIDE OF ORANGE COUNTY by 3/20/26! Circumstances of impound: Butters was surrendered by her owner after a bite. Behavior History: Veterinary Staff: 3/8/26 aggressive behavior shown in clinic, bite scanner, had to use PPE to give vaccine Shelter Staff: 03/08/26 11:04 Owner contacted the department requesting to surrender her dog, Butters, a 2-year-old fawn French Bulldog, following a bite incident that occurred earlier this morning at approximately 9:00 a.m. According to the owner, the victim is her roommate, who was walking out of a room when Butters bit the roommates hand, causing puncture wounds. The roommate is currently at the hospital seeking medical treatment. When asked about the dogs behavioral history, owner stated that Butters has consistently shown aggression toward other animals and has recently become aggressive toward people as well. The owner reported that she has contacted several rescues and private adopters in an attempt to rehome the dog; however, they have declined due to the dogs aggressive tendencies. 03/08/26 11:44 Owner arrived to owner surrender her dog, BUTTERS due to the above bite incident. Owner was not present (for bite), but her friend was present and witnessed the bite. Per friend, the victim/roommate was walking towards the apartment door to exit with his dog on a leash when BUTTERS was in the living room area and charged victim and began biting his hand when he stuck it out to ward BUTTERS away. Victim then picked up his dog and BUTTERS began to charge at victim multiple times attempting to bite. Eventually, victim was able to open the front door of the apartment and leave. Owner indicated that she can no longer safely manage the household with BUTTERS around as BUTTER and victims dog must be kept separate as they do not get along with each other and victims dog has a bite history. Victim has expressed fear of BUTTERS and does not feel safe living in same household with BUTTERS. Owner also indicated that she got BUTTERS from Facebook one year ago and BUTTERS has always been aggressive towards other people and pets when around her toys and when they approach when owner is around. BUTTERS will growl, lunge and attempt to bite. Per owner, when going to the vet, BUTTERS is prescribed Gabapentin but that does not help calm BUTTERS. I re-iterated the owner surrender process and that BUTTERS may be euthanized. Owner understood. Upon arrival, BUTTERS was pulling at end of leash that was held by owners friend and growling at me. Owner scanned for chip. No chip detected. Owner walked BUTTER into lower kennel. While in kennel, BUTTERS was calm and did not charge or growl. USE CAUTION. 03/08/26 use caution when handling. butters will jump and attempt to bite. Does not tolerate restraint. 03/10/26 08:18 Growling in kennel, wide eyed, tense. Dropped treats, dog quickly ran to eat then tensed once more, hard stares at this point, louder growling. Tossed additional treats, ended interaction. 3/13/26 Butters technically meets the definition of a Potentially Dangerous Dog based on the reported incident and bite to a human inflicting injuries. The escalation of aggressive behaviors towards other dogs and people also makes Butters an unsafe candidate for public adoption. However, a 501c3 rescue partner **outside of Orange County** may adopt/pull the dog after signing a bite/behavior waiver to ensure a safe placement option for the dog.
