Starlene is seeking rescue placement due to ongoing medical concerns, advanced age-related decline, and increasing difficulty coping in the shelter environment.

She arrived with significant skin disease, hair loss, lesions, overgrown nails, and chronic ocular discharge.

More recently, she has developed neurologic concerns affecting her jaw, which remains partially open at rest and may be related to trigeminal neuritis or another underlying condition.

She also has ongoing skin irritation and chronic drooling, and staff have noted difficulty eating and drinking normally.

Continued veterinary monitoring and supportive care will be needed.

Despite her medical challenges, Starlene has generally been described as a friendly and social dog who enjoys leisurely walks, attention, and spending time with people.

She has repeatedly approached handlers for affection and has shown loose, relaxed body language during many interactions.

However, she has also become increasingly reactive toward neighboring dogs in the kennel environment and has displayed growling, snarling, and warning behaviors when touched around her hind end, likely related to discomfort or sensitivity.

As her shelter stay has lengthened, her ability to tolerate the kennel environment has declined.

Starlene would benefit from placement with a rescue able to provide a quiet environment, continued medical evaluation, and support for her age-related needs.

Deadline: 5:00 PM on 6/22/26 due to ongoing medical concerns, increasing kennel-related stress, and declining quality of life in the shelter environment.
