Kendi was Adopted in August of 2020

August 7 marked six years since we adopted Ruby (FKA Kendi). She has become an adventurous, confident and playful girl - quite the change from the quiet scared pup we brought home in 2020. Thanks Safe Hands for bringing her into our lives. Happy Gotcha Day, Ruby!

All the homeless animals at the bridge last Friday went across with one of the best rescuers I had the honor of knowing. Marie Jones was a homeless animal’s biggest advocate and best hope. She was a part of Safe Hands for the past 12 years and drove our transport van nearly every two weeks, bringing tens of thousands of animals to safety, new homes and lives.

Marie also rescued hundreds of animals from perilous situations, literally going into caves to bring out mom dogs and the pups they birthed there, into hoarding situations where her motto was, “no dog left behind”, and climbing up or down mountain sides to save pups abandoned there. Marie went where angels feared to tread and always got the dog.

Marie was absolutely one of a kind. She treated everyone with dignity and respect and handled all situations with a healthy dose of humor. She put a positive spin on every challenging situation, always showed up with a smile and had an endless enthusiasm. She lived fully and beautifully and made so many lives, human and animal, better for it. Me included. The world was better with her in it.

Marie also loved her family fiercely and talked about them constantly, especially her grandkids. They were her pride and joy. Several of them went on rescue transports with her and she always looked forward to sharing her passion with them.

My heart is breaking. Rest easy my friend. I love you and will miss you always.

Marie was taken from us all when a speeding car ran through an intersection and hit her head on. It was sudden and unexpected and now we are all reeling. With her sons’ permission we have started a Go Fund Me to help with her funeral expenses. If you feel moved to help lay her to rest the fundraiser is here:

It's Golden Ticket Time! Together, saving lives is what we do! Pictured are the lucky kids who arrived nearly two weeks ago into Safe Hands, thanks to the kind humans named under each photo. That could be you!

So many more really deserving kids hope to be on the transport this weekend! To board the van on Friday, they need a Golden Ticket and a Foster Home. There are so, so, so many waiting for their chance to board the van. Please help if you can. We have been recruiting for foster homes all week and we still need more, but now it's time to focus on Golden Tickets for them.

Each Golden Ticket helps cover the cost of transportation from Kentucky to Minnesota, vet exams, vaccinations, and health certificates. In return, we send you a photo of the homeless pet you sponsored, and a Golden Ticket certificate, proving that you are amazing! We also let everybody know here on Facebook, and on our website. The new kids need Golden Tickets and foster homes every transport throughout the year. That means every other week, sometimes more often!

Puppy food needed! We have 40 adorable little puppies currently in our care at our Safe House. They are silly and sweet and keep us on our toes! That's also 40 hungry little bellies to fill. Our supply of puppy food is perilously low. Can you help restock the food bins?
