Let me introduce myself. My name is Mia, I'm 5 years old.

No one has ever come to visit me at the shelter. No one has even asked about me. Is it because of how I look, or my age? Do they not like my Bunny ears? The staff told me posing for these pictures would help me get adopted, but I am starting to think no one will ever want me.

I am a calm, sweet girl. I love all the people here at the shelter and always show them the commands I know - my favorite one is "shake". I am housetrained, I can walk on a leash, and know how to cuddle in front of the TV (I am very good at that!). I am not a barker and don't destroy my belongings in my kennel. There is a private adoption room where we could hangout together, I promise to be a good girl if you would just consider taking me home!

Please please please come visit me (they are open till 4:00pm for appointments today!). I would prefer to be the only pet in your home, but I will give you ALL my love - you won't need anyone else! I would even be an easy "first dog" for your family.

Mia is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Unfortunately she is heartworm positive (not contagious to other animals or people), however, the treatment is covered at no cost to her adopter. Please call our shelter at (985) 809-0183 to ask more questions or set up a private appointment. YES you can adopt if you live out of state, we do require you make the trip to us in person so Mia and our staff can meet you.

Although our cottage cats Lulu, Cindy and Striker have not found a home for the holidays, we can still bring Christmas to them. Staff members decked the halls today in our community cat cottage to help them feel the season's spirit!

Don't forget about our adoption special - all cats over 6 months have had their adoption fees waived, kittens under 6 months are $25. Everyone is fixed, up to date on their vaccinations, and goes home with a Christmas stocking. Please call us at (985) 809-0183 if you have an extra space in your heart and home for a kitty!

"Will I ever find a home?" wonders Minsy, a 2 year old female bulldog who has been waiting for her forever home at St. Tammany Parish Animal Services since February.

This easy going girl is the favorite of our staff members and has a "emotional support animal" type personality. Her favorite thing to do is lay on the couch with her head on your lap, nuzzling you occasionally for more attention. This easy going gal gets along great with other dogs, cats and kids. She is low energy and would fit well into any type of household. If you are looking for your first family dog or just simply have room for 'one more', please consider this sweet, well behaved girl. Check the comments section for a video!

Minsy does have some hair loss due to an allergen that we have not been able to identify as of yet. She is heartworm positive and has one treatment left, covered through our shelter's veterinarian at no cost to the adopter. Her adoption fee is $25 for the months of November-December. If you think Minsy could be the right fit for your family, please call us at (985) 809-0183 to ask more questions or schedule a private adoption meeting. We look forward to meeting you! PS - her nails were trimmed today!

DONATIONS NEEDED FOR CAT THAT WAS SHOT!!!

This poor cat’s leg was shot off by what we believe to be a 22 rifle!!! His name is Lucky and he is now in our care and will find a loving, inside home. Please donate to his surgery!!! His leg will need to be amputated 😢😢

Back story: We received a call about a barn cat that had endured some type of injury after being gone from his feeder for several weeks. We assured the gentleman we would help the cat, but had no idea this is what we would find.

**The cat’s finder is aware of the situation and was encouraged to call animal control or the cops!!!

I just got done burying 6 little serama chickens. What kind of a monster dumps itty bitty babies on the interstate??? Two minutes of online searching for a rescue and my name pops up. Why is that so hard? Six babies ended up dying from being hit by cars. INNOCENT little lives that had no idea what happened and where to go. They’re not bantams, they’re serama. One surviving hen left. Two roosters. Caked on poop on their toes that took over 40 minutes to chisel off. One injured died on the way and the second injured died in my arms 2 minutes after arriving. I am completely beat! Way behind on bird chores and had to cancel a zoom meeting with a client because I needed to catch up. It would be so wonderful to have at least one volunteer. I’m desperate!

Please consider making a donation to Kasia’s Ark Bird Rescue (www.facebook.com/KasiasArk) if you are able. Due to Covid19 my main job is on hold and I’m only working part time from home for my second job. Your donations help provide food, treats, vet care and medical supplies for every bird, duck or chicken that comes in. This year has been the busiest year so far. THANK YOU!!!

If anyone local has extra bags or cans of cat food, and wouldn’t mind donating a couple, please let me know. I’m going through a ton of cat food with all the babies coming in. Most baby birds eat a cat food based diet.

UPDATE: owner has been found! Is anyone missing their cat? I believe it is a girl. I think she may be chipped so I’m checking on that. She is declawed. Located near the lakefront in Mandeville. She has a few sores on her head and behind. Very very sweet. She has come to my house to sleep every day this week.

At 15-years-old and completely blind, Sweet Pea was surrender to our rescue when her family moved and could not take her along. We want nothing more than to find this girl her very own home; she doesn’t deserve to be in a homeless shelter in her senior age!!

Even without her eyesight, Sweet Pea’s favorite thing is exploring, smelling everything she encounters and getting into every space possible! Our Volunteer Coordinator who shares an office with Sweet Pea says she responds well to your voice when you call her and loves to be scratched and petted. She also added that Sweet Pea has the smallest and cutest baby paws ever!!! We know there’s someone out there looking to make a difference in the life of a senior pet!!! Come meet her today!

Senior cats are where it's at! In honor of "Adopt A Senior" month, we are proud to feature the lovely Tigerlilly. She is 15 years old, and she came to Big Sky Ranch shortly after her owner went into an assisted living facility.

Tigerlilly is a timid sort. She stays up high and out of the way of the other cats. She takes her time to warm up to people, but once it happens she leans into ear rubs like a champ. She seems to be longing for a home and a human of her own to trust. She would be an ideal companion for an older person in a low-key environment where she can spend the day collecting ear rubs and keeping a lap occupied. This girl wants to go home. We know there is a purrfect match for her out there! Please help us get Tigerlilly home for the holidays. For adopters 65 and older, our "Seniors for Seniors" program makes her adoption fee only $35.

I this where I saw chocolate lab spaniel mix pups ???
This is what it's like to walk through a shelter as a rescuer.... **All pictures were taken May 20th 2020 The last time I was at the St. Tammany parish animal services shelter was the week of May 20th. After much begging to Mike Cooper. I was allowed to go in and take pictures of all the dogs so I could promote them to rescues and foster. This is only the back kennels. THIS IS NOT ALL THE DOGS! **The shelter has a paid rescue coordinator. Since she wasn't reaching out for help I felt someone should... that someone was Julie and I. Some of these dogs have been there for months and months unvetted... no flea meds... no heartworm prevention...just waiting to die. Very few of these will ever go into adoptions. The rescue coordinators job is to promote all the animal to rescues and adopters. That is not happening! The shelter only had 5 dogs available for adoption. Our Rescue and help from Julie Smith worked nonstop for a week helping get 30 dogs out of the shelter. NOW we are shut out because i exposed the truth about the hoarding, starving and lack of medical care the shelter wasn't giving. This is a parish tax funded (2million a year) shelter. Its our shelter. Lets work together and DEMAND new leadership in our shelter! **Some of these dogs went to rescue, adopted or euthanized. **I COULDNT FIT ALL THE PICTURES FROM THAT DAY I WILL ADD MORE IN COMMENTS* If your interested in any please contact the shelter. PLEASE CALL AND EMAIL St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper 21490 Koop Drive Mandeville, Louisiana 70471 Phone: (985) 898-2362 Fax: (985) 898-5237 [email protected]

loving dog six years old in need of a home. His name is Bruno and he is a very loving dog. He is a large dog who would be great in a country setting. He has been a large house dog, and just recently snapped at a seven year old child. He is loved very much bu us, but the neighbor does not feel comfortable with him since this recent incident. He has been neutered and is up to date on all of his shots. We hate to give him up, but have no choice. He is a member of our household and we will miss him very much. We have eight days to find him a home or he will be put down. If anyone is interested please call Sandra at (985) 249-9784. Thank You, Sandra
