Full stall and medical/lay-up board available in Goochland, VA (Maidens area)! Near intersection of Broad St & Fairgrounds Rd, conveniently located 7 mins from I-64, Double Knot Equine Services at Sugar Magnolia Farm is operated and managed by a veterinary professional who lives on site! We have recently expanded to include a second facility in addition to our main barn and are ready to serve you and your equine partner.
Included in regular board:
- Individualized feeding program tailored to each horse’s needs, including twice daily grain and free choice Pennsylvania orchard grass hay with complete nutrient analysis (including low NSC blends for metabolic and easy keeping horses)
- Stalls cleaned twice daily at minimum
- Well maintained pastures that are fertilized and seeded yearly
- Large sand/stone dust combo ring with new fencing AND new footing
- Year round night turnout for full boarders with ample pasture time and space - horses are never in stalls for more than 8 hours
- Climate controlled tack room with washer/dryer, bathroom, and fridge
- Hot/cold wash stall
- Fly gear/blanketing as seasonally appropriate
- Bridle path trail and pond
- Outside trainers welcome with proof of insurance
- Holding for our vet and farrier (on 6 week rotation)
- Auto-waterers and run-ins in each field
- Most importantly: We are a small, family run operation with a QUIET, laid back atmosphere and pride ourselves in giving boarders their respective space to enjoy their equine companions uninterrupted. While some of our riders enjoy keeping in consistent work and visit local shows, this is not a big show barn nor do we have the intention of being one - our focus is solely on your horse’s well being.
*In addition to regular board, we are proudly offering lay up/medical board following your veterinarian’s treatment plan! Our manager is a licensed veterinary technician student (license eligible May 2026), and has been in the veterinary field for over 12 years. Extensive experience with wound management, serial ophthalmic medication administration/SPLs, post-operative care (colic, orthopedic, soft tissue, etc), refeeding programs, lamenesses, and more!
Our medical board includes all the amenities listed above for regular board PLUS:
- Stalls equipped with 24/7 continuous video monitoring for horses on stall rest
- Multiple small paddocks for individual or limited turnout
- Daily monitoring and detailed communication updates (text/photo/video)
- IV/IM/oral/topical medication administration
- Wrapping, bandaging, etc as required
- Strict adherence to your veterinarian’s treatment plan
- Quiet, low-stress environment ideal for healing
