Humidity plays a major role in your dog’s ability to cool themselves. As humidity rises, panting becomes far less effective, which means the risk of heat stroke increases even on days that don’t seem excessively hot.

A simple rule of thumb:
Air Temperature + Humidity % = 150 or more? It’s time to be extra cautious.

For example:
65°F + 85% humidity = 150 = Increased heat stroke risk

This isn’t a hard-and-fast safety rule, but it’s a helpful reminder that the “feels like” conditions matter just as much as the temperature on the thermometer.

When in doubt:
- Walk early or late in the day.
- Keep exercise short and low intensity.
- Watch for excessive panting, weakness, or bright red gums.
- If your dog shows signs of heat stroke, seek veterinary care immediately.
