In memory of Scruffy, the first fancy cat -
Our hearts are heavy as we said goodbye to our special girl, the sassy & tiny Scruffy. She left us peacefully on Wednesday, July 9th, at 1:55 pm after battling with stage 5 kidney disease. While the pain of her absence is immense, we find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering.
Despite being rescued off the street, Scruffy was a cat of discerning tastes. Always knowing exactly what she wanted, she eschewed the concept of "beggars can't be choosers" and was the template for what it meant to be a fancy cat. She had a particular fondness for rotisserie chicken and scallops, always having to wash them down at her water fountain. Her mornings typically began with her perching on our necks, a warm, comforting weight that signaled the start of a new day. She loved to bask in the sun, finding the perfect patch of warmth to nap, more often than not curled up in a lap. She was always so food-motivated, whether it be prancing toward the sound and smell of a freshly opened can or learning to shake, eventually always raising her paw to ask for another treat.
While she was so small for her breed, her larger-than-life personality more than made up for it. A true testament to big things coming in small packages. She filled our hearts with so much love and warmth. Every purr, every head-nuzzle, every kick of her carrot toy, every gentle little snore, and every furry snuggle brought joy into our home. She was a beloved member of our family, a once-in-a-lifetime kind of kitty, and her spirit now lives on with us. We love her very, very much, and she will be deeply missed.
