Today, we gathered in love and gratitude, honoring the life of a cherished soul-Mercy. A name so fitting, for he was the embodiment of grace, strength, and quiet wisdom. He was not just a horse; he was a companion, a teacher, a gentle presence that left an imprint on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mercy came to Flurry’s Hope about 14 years ago with another blind horse named Justin. The two of them were found starved, emaciated and abandoned in a pasture in a small town in Illinois with no food or water. Some of the local people of the town saved them and raised the money to get them transfered to our blind horse sanctuary. Through Justin’s passing many years ago, Mercy bonded with another blind horse named Fannie and the two were inseparable until her passing last year.
Mercy carried with him the echoes of the past, the bonds of the present and the whispers of memories that will never fade. He mourned the loss of his pasture mate, Fannie, with a depth only those who have truly loved can understand. And now, we offer him the same mercy he has always shown, freeing him from pain, letting him find peace and trusting that beyond this life, he will be reunited with those he has longed for.
Though his hooves will no longer tread this earth, his spirit will remain in the rustling of the leaves, the warmth of the sun on our backs, and the steady calm presence that lingers in the quiet moments. Mercy’s love does not end today. It carries forward in the lessons he taught us- the lessons of resilience, companionship, and the unwavering connection between souls.
Run free now, Mercy, no more pain, no more sorrow. Only open fields, a soft breeze, and the joy of reunion. You were loved beyond measure. You are loved still.
