Western Tiger Swallowtail? Pale Swallowtail? Canadian Swallowtail? I joined some Butterfly FB groups to try to find out. I love butterflies and don't seem to see them often in Western WA other than the common white cabbage. So today I'm especially delighted with spotting this visit to this Daphne shrub in our garden today.

This bush is fragrant: I'd say it's similar to the fragrance of jasmine but not quite as potent. It makes a nice foliage in bouquets.

Do you have room for this Kidd's Climax in your garden? It's a favorite with many! It is often considered a heritage or legacy variety, being hybridized in 1940.

This variety among many others on our site have been tested through the Agdia test strips. It was so exciting that this older variety seems immune to virus!

Bellevue Botanical Gardens was the place several ADS judges received awards today. Fun to see what this next step in dahlia judging brings.

We brought home some tubers from the Puget Sound Dahlia sale and the Federation Dahlia Auction.

The workshop today consisted about learning about soil and hearing a panel chat about dahlia sales.

Hellebores were plentiful - so many varieties to be seen. I tipped their stems so very gently to see their pretty faces. Beautiful colors, we live in such a magnificent created world.

The calendar tells us it's spring: a step outdoors seems to say not quite yet. So we have a little longer to garden plan and buy new varieties, right?

A small flower farm in Lynden growing many flower varieties including Dahlias, Zinnias, Sweet Peas, Bells of Ireland, Strawflowers, Amaranth, etc. Dahlia tubers are available for sale in April, and bouquets from July through October through local venues and a CSA.
