Fade to Grey Farm: Eventing, Foxhunting, & Connemaras

Fade to Grey Farm: Eventing, Foxhunting, & Connemaras Breeding Connemaras and Connemara crosses for eventing and foxhunting Fade to Grey Eventing was started by Megan Buchanan in 2007.

Megan's family formed Brambleridge Farm in 1997, and she and her mother, Nancy Buchanan, began breeding ponies, and pony crosses, in 2004. They have worked diligently to produce good tempered, athletic ponies capable of a variety disciplines. They narrowed their stock from Welsh and Connemaras, to just Connemaras and Connemara crosses. Although the farm moved in 2007, and again to Megan's Fade to

Grey Farm in 2011, the horses and ponies still carry the Brambleridge prefix. Megan is a graduate upper level pony clubber, avid eventer and foxhunter. She has earned her colors with the Bear Creek Hounds and has been hunting with them since 2007. She has served as an honorary whip since 2012. Megan has competed successfully through the Intermediate level in eventing, 2nd level dressage, and the 3'9" jumpers. She taught and trained for five years professionally before returning to the home building industry. Megan is a member of USEF, USEA, USDF, ACPS and USPC. Megan has served several terms on the American Connemara Pony Society Board of Governors, including the position of Vice President, also serves on the ACPS Region IV Committee and is an inspector for the US Inspection committee. She was instrumental in starting the ACPS' new Connemara Sport Horse registry.

I heard from five different ‘Declan baby’ owners over the last week or so, including Liz McGuire, who just acquired her second Declan foal, ‘Neil’. She and her daughter purchased his full sister, ‘Daisy’ last year and have been so happy with her they wanted another!

It made me wonder how many breeders (or owners) had more than one Declan offspring, so I spent about 3 hours 🤪 yesterday plugging all his foals into one spreadsheet. He has 92 foals on the ground (!) and more than 20 people have used him two or more times or have purchased two or more of his offspring. Clearly, he is consistent with what he puts on the ground.

Our Story

Though Fade to Grey Farm came to fruition in 2011, the Brambleridge breeding program started years earlier. Megan's family formed Brambleridge Farm in 1997, and she and her mother, Nancy Buchanan, began breeding ponies and pony crosses in 2004. They have worked diligently to produce good tempered, athletic ponies capable of a variety disciplines. Although the farm moved in 2007, and again to Megan and her husband, Lee's, Fade to Grey Farm in 2011, the horses and ponies still carry the Brambleridge prefix. Fade to Grey Eventing was started by Megan Buchanan Harris in 2007. Megan is a graduate upper level pony clubber, avid eventer and foxhunter. She has hunted with Bear Creek since 2007, earning her colors in 2009, and serving as an honorary whip since 2012. Megan has competed successfully through the Intermediate level in eventing, 2nd level dressage, and the 3'9" jumpers. She taught and trained for five years professionally during a hiatus from the home building industry, but returned to construction & design in 2012 and re-established her amateur status in the equestrian world. Megan is a member of USEF, USEA, USDF, ACPS and USPC. Megan has been involved with the American Connemara Pony Society in multiple capacities, including sitting on the ACPS Board of Governors for several terms, including the position of Vice President, participating on the ACPS Region IV Committee, the Awards Committee, the USEF Connemara Committee and serving as an inspector for the US ACPS Inspection program. She was instrumental in starting the ACPS' new Connemara Sport Horse registry.

Fade to Grey Farm primarily breeds Connemara Halfbreds and Connemara Sport Horses (1/4 CONN). Halfbred mares by *Grange Finn Sparrow have been the cornerstone of the program, and have crossed exceptionally well with TB’s and ISH’s - in keeping with the true Irish tradition of blending the Irish Draught, the Thoroughbred and the Connemara pony. The program has sold several foals into the hands of professionals, and looks forward to following their futures!

Fade to Grey Farm stands the imported Connemara stallion, *TBS Declan Pondi, by Dexter Leam Pondi (FRA) x Dandy Sparrow (IRE) x Ashfield Bobby Sparrow (IRE). Declan was purchased at 3 months of age and imported to the USA before he was 6 months old.

Declan is proving to have it all - temperament, athleticism, type and the willingness to try anything. Even at a young age he is competing and winning in many arenas - in-hand, jumpers, dressage and eventing - and he is an exceptional foxhunter, having begun his career in 1st field as a 4 year old. His first foals are consistent in type and character, the first will be started under saddle in 2019.
