We are enjoying the warmer weather! Zoo open Wednesday thru Sunday 11am-430pm.

Update as of 2/5/26 the zoo is now back to normal operation. The inside and outside areas are open at regular admission.
If you wish to stay in the warm reptile house only we are still offering half price for those who do not wish to go outside where it is cold!

The zoo will resume normal hours tomorrow 1/31/26 of 11am-430pm Wednesday thru Sunday, however the outdoor exhibits and petting zoo will remain closed as we work to make walkways safe. We will post when the outdoor area is reopened. The indoor reptile house will be open at a discounted price of $6 per adult (ages 13+) $3.00 per child (ages 3-12) ages 2 and under are free. We will be having some reptile meet and greets thru out the day in the reptile house as well.

At this time the zoo will remain closed thru Friday due to weather and unsafe walking paths. In the event we can get the parking lot cleared which has been impossible even with our equipment we may open by the weekend but it will just be the indoor reptile houses if we do at a discounted rate. All the zoo animal are safe and tucked in nice and warm and are being taken care of 24/7 with hourly checks thru the night to make sure heaters are all working and buildings are kept nice and warm! For anyone calling the Zoo, please understand that we are not able to answer the phone throughout the day as we’re working in very cold conditions and don’t want to take our hands out of our gloves. Please leave a message and we’ll get back to everyone as soon as we can during warm up breaks. Please everyone stay safe and warm!

The zoo will be closed Sunday 1-25-26 due to the incoming snow storm and cold temps. We will evaluate and decide if we will reopen the whole zoo on Wednesday or just the indoor reptile house.

We would like to extend our gratitude to our community for the love and support you have shown us. My wife and I are so thankful for the love the town and community has shown our family during this difficult time. My wife when she has rested and taken a much need day wanted me to let everyone know she will be trying to respond to all comments, messages and calls.

The zoo is operating under normal hours of operation. The fire took place at our home that was off site of the zoo so zoo will operate as normal. We apologize in advance if we open a few minutes late as our family adjust to our new normal.

We are in search of a contractor for rebuild insurance is going to provide us with a list but also told us to search local as well. If anyone knows of anyone please call us at the zoo 540-743-4113.

We have secured a place to stay during rebuild. At this time, we would like to update that we have sufficient clothing items. For those inquiring about other ways to assist, we have updated the list of needed items.
One area of ongoing need is diapers as my we lost all the cloth diapers in the fire and grocery items. My wife, I truly did not realize or appreciate fully the amount of work she not only does for the zoo but for our family. A lot of people know we are small rescue Zoo and during the off-season our visitation is very slow so my wife works all summer long to fully prep for the off-season for family groceries. Meaning canning food, freezing food, and stocking the chest freezer with the meat our family needs for the winter. As well as purchasing all necessary goods for making all bread items for the winter as well as if it wasn’t enough for all what she did she always made everything from scratch.

For right now we are taking one day at a time. We are greving the loss of our home and memories but so thankful we still have each other. Rebuild will take awhile but I know my wife will make it a home once again.

We want to thank everyone for there love and prayers during this difficult time for our family. We want to thank the fire fighters and first responders that fought so hard to try to save our home last night and this morning. Last night has not sunk in all the way and we are still is shock. Seeing your home, your memories turned to a pile of ash and rubble … it just seems like a nightmare we can’t wake up from. We are blessed and lucky to still have our family. Our kids are grieving not only the loss of their home but of their pets. Our youngest daughter Naja lost her bunnies and is completely devastated. Our two daughters Nala and Amira lost their best friends, their bearded dragon Mr Steve and their geckos Mr smiley and Voldemort and all memories and pictures as the girls camera was lost in the fire . We have been asked if the community can help. If anyone has any clothes they can donate for our kids would be more than appreciated. Drop off would be at the zoo. Again we can not thank everyone enough for the love they have showed us during this terrible time. We are just going to take one day at a time.

Amira is 7 years old and wears a girls medium/7
Naja is about to turn 6 on December 21 and wears a girls small/6
Little Edward is 3 years old and wears a 3T
Little Harry just turned 2 on December 6 and wears a 2t.

We see all the comments and will be responding this evening as today we are sorting thru the house rubble to see if anything can be saved.

The zoo will be opening on a delay schedule for Friday December 11 as we have had a very trying night. We will open around 12:30pm as of right now. We went to go home (not located on zoo )and found our house on fire burning to the ground. We have sadly lost our house and everything in it. We are in shock and our kids are in shock. We are trying to process everything and help our kids thru this hard time.
