The Walipini-style winter greenhouse is in full operation and the greens are growing great! The in-ground approach has consistently maintained above freezing (32 degF) temperatures day and night drawing both solar heat and warmth from the ground. The inside temperature has reached temperatures near 80 degF throughout December and is holding steady above 40 degF in the recent cold weather.

Pair of Juvenile Pheasants Return - Late Fall 2016

Defying the odds, this pheasant hen has survived the scourge of hawks and coyotes in the area this fall and returned home with the male she has paired with. If she can make it through the winter, she will establish a first generation of wild raised pheasants.

A male pheasant returned to the farm this morning to visit his friends.
He has reached full color in his maturity, looks to be healthy and doing well in the wild.
It is always reassuring to have one come back in good shape to prove the skeptics wrong - many believe they cannot survive with all the predators in the area.

The Ringneck Pheasants and Chukar Partridge raised from chicks this year have reached full maturity. They are easily flushed into flight on a windy day that makes them readily excitable with little provocation. These flight shots capture their incredible beauty by showing the full range of color and patterns in their flight feathers.
