Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), or "bloat," is a life-threatening emergency where a dog's stomach fills with gas and twists on its axis. This traps the gas and cuts off blood supply, leading to shock and organ damage. It requires immediate veterinary surgery to survive.

Ralph visited us for intermittent limping on his left front leg. We took some survey x-rays and found something unexpected: a fish hook! Thankfully, we were able to get Ralph straight in for surgery and remove the hook!

Beginning Monday, 5/18/26, Blue Cross Animal Hospital will become a part of Louisville Veterinary Referral Center (LVRC)!

We will continue to offer primary care services through Blue Cross Animal Hospital for all of your wellness, nutrition and pharmacy needs, led by Dr. Zoe!

Dr. Campbell, Dr. Bode, and their team will continue to serve our Internal Medicine clients with advanced care and imaging through Louisville Veterinary Internal Medicine (LVIM).

We will now also offer same day, Urgent Care services, led by Dr. Elizabeth Howerton!

Feel free to stop by for a tour next week, and stay tuned for an open house scheduled later this summer!

(ps - we are closing the doors at our current location tomorrow, Friday 5/15 at 12pm, and will reopen Monday at 927 E Broadway!)

We have some exciting news many of you have been waiting for...

**We are moving to 927 E Broadway, Louisville, KY 40204!**

Our move date is now set for next weekend, and we will be open for business in the new location Monday 5/18/26!

Blue Cross Animal Hospital will now be a part of Louisville Veterinary Referral Center, 927 E Broadway, Louisville, KY, as of Monday, 5/18/26. Our new facility has more exam rooms, a more comfortable lobby with a coffee lounge, and over 20 parking spots. Just 2 blocks east on Broadway from our current location.

Look for the blue awnings!

In addition to regular wellness visits, we will also be available for same day, urgent appointments M-Th 8am-4pm to address the following conditions:

-Vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite
-Lameness and limping
-Skin infections, allergies, itching and hot spots
-Lethargy, general discomfort
-Eye and ear infections
-Coughing, sneezing, upper respiratory infections
-Abscesses, minor wounds and lacerations
-Urinary tract infections, straining, litter box issues
-Ultrasounds and CTs
-Seizures

Receptionists are the heartbeat of our veterinary practice, balancing compassion with efficiency in every interaction. They are often the first voice a worried pet owner hears and the steady presence that keeps the day running smoothly, even during the busiest moments. Their ability to juggle scheduling, communication, and emotional support—while showing genuine care for both animals and their humans—makes an enormous difference. Come and support the wonderful things we do for the pets of the houseless by purchasing a spaghetti dinner ( or two or three ) on Sunday, February 22 from 1-6 at PG&Js Dog Park Bar. They are located at 800 Baxter Ave across from Cave Hill Cemetery. If you want to bring your pet, check out their page first for information. This is a fun place to hang out, enjoy a meal and see some of the cutest dogs in the city. Please share so that we can have a great turnout! Meatless options are available.
