Upperville C**t & Horse Show 2025

Blue competed in the Irish Draught breed classes on Friday morning. This was our third outing as a pair, and he was an absolute STAR ⭐️ all day!
•
We started with the in-hand class, where he was awarded 6th place. Breed classes are so challenging because when you have a breed like the Irish Draughts or Connemaras, the stud book is closed, so just about every horse of that breed looks nearly identical, except for minor details in conformation and movement. On Friday, apparently, Blue was trotting with one hind leg stepping a bit higher than the other, so the judges marked him down for that. I attribute this to hauling two hours to Northern Virginia for the show and breeding weekly for the last two months! I was glad they told me because this can be addressed with strength and fitness!

Next class was Hunter Under Saddle, which includes one jump line after you hack around the arena in walk, trot, and canter. Blue was absolutely perfect and earned a 2nd place!

The final class was a Handy Hunter class set at 2'9, where we had to jump a few fences, pick up a ribbon from a standard, trot and canter two fences holding said ribbon, drop off the ribbon, canter the rest of the course, and then let ourselves out of the hand gate at the end of the arena and close it behind us. Blue also completed this extraordinarily well. It was not a perfect round, but it was the best we could do on Friday, and it earned him a 2nd place!!

First and foremost, I want to thank Laura and Steve Parker for trusting me with their lovely stallion. Riding such a fantastic animal is a pleasure, and I cannot wait for more!! He is only getting better, and our partnership is becoming strong.
