Please call the shelter or visit in person right away if you are interested in adopting any of the pets. Although we try our best to update this page, we cannot guarantee that the information here is up-to-date. Please note that the shelter is unable to 'hold' animals. Stray animals taken to the shelter are held for three business days to allow the owner to reclaim the pet. If they are not reclaimed they are available for adoption. Owner surrendered pets are available for adoption or rescue immediately. The temporary adoption fee per the Director is a non refundable $65.00 for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. The adoption fee covers the surgical sterilization, a one year rabies vaccination and a booster vaccination. If the pet is already spayed/neutered, the adoption fee is only $15

Amazing!!! Know some of the people involved with this - all dedicated and hardworking! Southwest Cat Initiative

“Our Mission: to improve the welfare of all cats and their caretakers in New Mexico. We recognize caretakers as not just those feeding these cats, but also the veterinary staff and dedicated volunteers. By providing low-income spay/neuter services and trapping assistance, we aim to ease the burden on the animal welfare community and prevent overpopulation at its source.

Our Vision: is to become the leading spay/neuter clinic, providing high-quality and high-volume services, with a special focus on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR). We envision a growing network that begins modestly but dreams of expanding its reach to serve the entire state of New Mexico, ensuring widespread access to vital care.

Please consider helping out with a donation 😻”

Over 30 kittens. Tired but proud.

We recently took in 30+ kittens from a couple of TNR efforts in the Farmington area. Not gonna lie - it was overwhelming. For a small organization like ours, the toll was real, both physically and financially.

But thanks to our incredible partners at The Kronos Adam Foundation , RezDawg Rescue, Inc, and Animal Humane New Mexico, most of those kittens now have placement. We’ve got just 7 left in our care and 3 of them already have adoption holds!

This work isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

📦 We could really use your help - if you’d like to support our ongoing efforts, donations and supplies are deeply appreciated. We are fresh out of everything!

If donations are out of your reach, we understand, we are also always looking for people willing to foster for us! We’re putting together a foster email list - if you’re interested in being on it send us a message!

Stay tuned - photos of the kittens still available for adoption coming next! 🐈 ♥️ 🐾

A local foster home can be arranged while transportation is organized; 2. Adopter arranges transportation (there are a number of groups who do this around the country); 3. Animal must be spayed/neutered before transport; 4. Animal must have a rabies certificate and in some cases (depending on location) may need a health certificate (there is an additional fee for this) (The Shelter is currently working on developing relationships with transport organizations)
