Last week we were alerted to a kitten situation that needed assistance.

While walking towards the home, a gentleman heard crying and shortly after, kittens came running towards him. He called his girlfriend to come help him. She grabbed a laundry basket and a towel and ran out. There were 6 kittens estimated at 2-4 weeks. She had a very good idea who the mama was and watched and waited for her 2 different times. She even did a stake-out through the night to be able to reunite. Unfortunately, the area they live in has many predators and we fear she was in the process of moving them and sadly didn’t make it back.😢 They are still watching for her. Knowing they needed to eat every few hours, they graciously took on the task to bottle feed all 6 every 4 hours through the night for a week! Being a rescue, we understand what an undertaking that can be and are so incredibly grateful for both of their efforts. 😇

During our initial conversation, she noted that a few of the babies already had loving and safe homes lined up, which is amazing. Not to mention a friend that was willing to foster and had past experience with bottle babies-double YAY! I offered to intake all babies under our rescue first to make sure they were stable, flea free and no visible infection. I also wanted to deworm them right away since they were found outside. She willingly put her trust in us and brought them to us that night. She even hung around to see how we do our intake. 😊 It was fun for us to get to know her more and be able to share what we do with someone who cares about animals as much as we do.

Babies took to our formula very quickly and all love to eat! We did unfortunately have to separate every one of them because all 4 females and 1 of the 2 males were sucklers, which is very dangerous, but we hope to reunite shortly. Updates coming soon!

We have names!

We decided to go with a herb theme since these babies were found in a greenhouse! Introducing Basil, Parsley, Lavender, Oregano, and Cilantro!

Full tummies, happy babies!

As much as we’ve wanted to update on these littles, our schedule has been packed and we needed to prioritize treating and stabilizing them. That includes feeding every 3 hours to help them get used to scheduled feedings.

Last Monday we were contacted by our sister rescue, Saving Livy about a young litter of kittens found in a greenhouse. The finders graciously cared for them through the night, even waking every 3 hours to feed. We are so grateful for the finders who step up to care for them while they find a safe place for them to go. We quickly worked together to get the babies picked up and brought to us. We can’t thank Becky (with Saving Livy) enough for going out of her way to pick up and bring to us! Right away we noticed how hungry and skinny they were. Four of the five had very crusty and sealed shut eyes, showing signs of infection. We quickly flea bathed them, which was most important because their gums were very pale and could die from flea anemia. Then we gently cleaned and treated all of their eyes. Once warmed and dry in the incubator, we attempted their first bottle feeding. One of the littlest ones was very lethargic. We decided to give fluids (properly dosed for his weight) and he perked up a lot in a short time. Feedings were very difficult at first due to not latching, but we are happy to report a week later, every single one of them has mastered the latch! Yay!
