Did you know that dogs, just like humans, can suffer from anxiety? 🤯 Here are some common signs that your dog is suffering from anxiety.
🐾 Using the bathroom indoors when they have not gone to the bathroom in the house any other time.
🐾 Panting/drooling/trembling
🐾 Destructive behaviors/excessive barkng
🐾 Self harm
Finding the source of your dog's anxiety and taking the proper steps whether it be desensitization or medication can help your pup feel more comfortable!
🐶 Having a consistent daily routine can help dogs feel more secure.
🐶 Regular exercise and puzzle toys can help burn off energy stemming from anxiety.
🐶 Give them a safe space. A crate with a covering creates a dark and secure space. Offer familiar/favorite items to make things feel safer. Use a pheromone diffuser or lavender to lower stress levels.
🐶 Try calming aids or supplements such as CBD, L-theanine, or chamomile. Combine calming aids/supplements with an anxiety shirt or wrap!
🐶 If you have pin pointed the trigger for your dog's anxiety, work on desensitizing them to it by gradually exposing your dog to the source of their fear. Slowly increase the intensity.
🐶 Change a fearful response into a positive one by offering high value treats or play to associate the trigger to.
🐶 Reward calm behavior instead of punishing anxious actions which can increase their fear/anxiety.
As always, if there is no change, a vet visit may be in order to rule out an underlying condition that is causing your dog's anxiety.
