Yeehaw🤠 it’s time for Chrissy’s Rescue Roundup! This weeks adorable rescue is Oro! Oro is available for adoption through Cause 4 Paws, thanks to the efforts of Operation Hood. This fun and affectionate 6 month old kitten is patiently waiting to find his furever home. He loves to play and instantly loves everyone he meets. He will do best in a home with other animals that he can play with and learn from. To find out more about Oro and how to adopt, please visit cause4pawslocustgrove.org

Are the cats in your neighborhood multiplying more and more each year? 🙀TNR is the answer!

Trap-Neuter-Return is the most humane method of reducing the population of community cats.

Kittens should be fixed no later than 5 months old, and can be fixed as young as 6 weeks old. (As long as they’re 2 pounds.)

To find a spay/neuter clinic near you that you can get community cats fixed for low (or no!) cost, use this tool:

STRAY, SEMI-FERAL, OR FERAL?

Have you spied a cat in your yard? Seen a colony of cats by your office building?

What’s the difference between a stray cat, a semi-feral cat, & a feral cat?

Below is some general information. As always, there can be some gray area.

Stray cats were at one point socialized to people and may be eligible for adoption, while truly feral cats aren’t domesticated and are happy living outside on their own.

Feral cats are also less likely to approach people, unlike strays, who are more comfortable around humans and houses.

Semi-feral cats are cats who have had some experience with humans in the past. Semi-feral cats are vocal and may make eye-contact even if they do not allow humans to touch them. Some semi-feral cats can be socialized over time; it depends on the cat and the person working with that cat.

PLEASE DO NOT LABEL EVERY CAT YOU SEE OUTSIDE AS FERAL. How you label an outdoor cat will determine next steps on the best way to help that cat.

All outdoor cats should go through the Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) process - a stray cat might go into foster care after vetting in search of an indoor forever home if a rescue organization has space. Generally, stray cats are candidates for adoption; feral cats are generally not.
