It’s tempting to celebrate National Hug Your Dog Day by, well, hugging your dog. It releases oxytocin and lifts our mood. But what about for the dog? In general, hugging a dog can feel like they’re being trapped, and they can’t get away from any threat that may arise during the hug. Though some dogs may seem to enjoy it, most are simply tolerating it; one study found that over 80% of dogs showed signs of stress while being hugged by their owners. It’s imperative to respect your dog’s boundaries and understand their subtle stress signals, before they begin to build. As teaches, “One hand enough, two hands too rough.”

Of course, there are always dogs who come up to owners and ask for hugs in their own quirky way. You know your dog best, so it’s just a matter of knowing when your dog is saying “enough.” So, I’m renaming National Hug Your Dog Day to National Respect Your Dog’s Boundaries Day. Listen to your dog’s wants and needs, and don’t overstep. I’m celebrating by taking Ellie to get ice cream—the only boundary she sets with that is that I can’t take too long taking pictures of her before I give it to her!

Times are a-changin’, and so must we. We’ve decided it’s time to increase our prices for some of our products, so we’ve listed them here. We thank you all for your understanding and support as this is never an easy decision, and we truly aim to keep our prices as low as our costs will allow. We will always err on the side of transparency as we believe an honest business is a respectable business.

We are still in the process of transitioning our pricing, so go see if you can snag some deals on your favorite items before the prices go up!

Ever wonder what sets our collars apart? We specialize in making cute collars in a range of sizes for all dogs, and we take pride that we always support independent artists and small businesses with our designs, but safety is constantly our top priority. That’s why we never cut corners with the hardware we select and the sewing techniques we use. It took some trial and error in the beginning to get here, but we’re confident that our current design—which we’ve used for over two years now—is durable and long-lasting even for the most rugged of pups.

P.S. This doesn’t mean we’re not open to learning; we’re constantly on the lookout for ways to update our products! Feedback from customers have helped us make small changes here and there that have improved our products in big ways.
