Due to out of town commitments, Suwannee Mobile Veterinary Services will be CLOSED next week, Thursday 16 April through Sunday 19 April. Over-the-phone consultation will be available at 386.361.1554, but response may be delayed. On farm emergency response will be available through a third party for equines for established clients only. As always, backup emergency response is available at University of Florida in Gainesville. Normal services will resume Monday 20 April.

Good morning! Hope everyone is as pleased as I am at the change in weather and the return of RAIN!! I will be out of town Friday 3 October through Sunday 5 October. Normal hours resume Monday. I will have emergency coverage for equines and small ruminants but not cattle or pigs. For all cases please call 3863611554 and we will discuss options ions. For cattle or pig emergencies that require treatment the best option is likely University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.

A Letter from Ellie Jae

Dear Friends,

It’s me, Ellie Jae. I am my Mama’s daughter — her heart, her soul, her everything. I’ve been loved, cherished, and treated as family every single day of my life at Ark Rescue. I’ve felt warm sunshine on my face, the gentlest kisses, and the kind of love that makes a soul feel safe.

Right now, though, my body is fighting a battle that even love can’t erase. The truth is, no one knows how much time I have left. Maybe it’s months, maybe a year, maybe less — it’s all up to me, and how long I can keep going. Mama and Daddy are giving me everything I need to stay comfortable, happy, and strong for as long as I can.

I see the way Mama looks at me. I feel how her hands linger when she strokes my face, as if she’s trying to hold on to every little piece of me. I know she wishes she could trade places with me — that’s how deep her love runs.

But please don’t be sad for me. Be grateful with me. Because of you, I’ve lived a life filled with dignity, joy, and belonging. I’ve been seen, loved, and cherished — and that is more than many animals ever get to feel.

My care from here on out will be extensive. If you are able, please help my family help me. Every gift means medicine, comfort, and the chance to make the time I have — however long it may be — filled with peace and love.

And if you want to do something for me that will last forever, carry this truth with you: every animal’s life matters. We feel, we love, we hurt, we dream. Just like you.

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend! I will be out of town Friday through Sunday. (This is 5-7 September.) There will be another veterinarian taking emergency calls - but they will not be able to see cattle or pigs. For those patients, University of Florida will have emergency services.

As we spring into Easter, several clients have asked about necessary vaccines for their horses.

For all horses, donkeys and mules, I recommend annual vaccination with the combination encephalopathy vaccine against viruses carried by mosquitoes: Eastern, Western, Venezuelan, and West Nile. (Also written as EEE, WEE, VEE and WNV.) This comes combined with Tetanus vaccine, which is another essential annual vaccine. I also recommend that because we live in Florida, where the skeeters never die, that all equines are boostered for West Nile six months after the annual update.
