Baker’s Dozen Mousery

Since I just did an inventory, I wanted to share my updated variety list, what I’m working toward, and what may be 👀 🏠 at any given time. I don’t advertise but I do often have spares of all ages! Sparkles ✨ indicate lines I am particularly pleased with.

✨Recessive Yellow in standard, satin, pied, self, and pink eyed. I am selecting away from pied and pink eye; I just don’t enjoy them as much, so at any point I may have a small amount 👀 🏠

⭐️Merle in black, chocolate, blue, and pied. Many of them are also Abyssinian but I am moving away from that. I am also trying to breed away from the blue, and balance the very heavy roaning some of my mice experience.

✨Black eyed silver in self and fox. Most are fox, though I am attempting to breed a line of BES that breed true. For my genetics friends, these particular black eyed silvers are blue based cch/c, and the fox ones have tan on that as well. I am crossing these to beiges (ce/*) to attempt to see if blue beige fox will breed true and be a similar color to the BES I have now. I almost always have extras.

✨ Blue fox and albino are side results of the above variety, and I keep a small number of both on hand.

⭐️ Blue beige in colorpoint beige, reverse Siamese, ivory, and beige alone; some of these are also fox. I am getting my numbers of beige up. I am going to attempt to take the fox off of some of these because I really like beige as it is.

⭐️ Angora in PEW, standard and satin. I call this my PEWgora project. I just now have expressed angora parents instead of breeding carriers to carriers. I will often have spare PEW that are poor or not angora from this line; underneath the PEW is a disaster of merle, yellow, tan, blue, and potentially chocolate.

✨ Pearl and silvered on whatever they are on. I am having bad luck with these reproducing for me, though I am trying. I haven’t had a chance to put work into them but I really love the pearls and I’m excited to work with it more!

By far the most abundant variety in my creatures is recessive yellow; they’re also the one I am most proud of. I am now consistently getting mice without soot which means I can properly work on type without losing TOO much in the way of color.

I’ve been hard at work on club things so I haven’t been as active here on my rodentry page; but things are still moving over here!

I’m working on mixing beige into my black eyed silver line to make it breed true. This doe is a cross between a colorpoint beige male from a friend and a silver from my line; either beige + chinchilla or Burmese (they look exactly the same before they start pointing out). I am quite fond of her and I’m really looking forward to crossing her in further to improve the type and diversity of all my animals 🙂

Paired up a bunch of pearls as a gift to myself - my birthday is at the end of the month!

I’m really eager to do some mad scientist testing with this elusive variety while also helping it continue to spread around and shine. It is such a beautiful, delicate variety; they’re quite at place among my love for black eyed silver fox and heavy roan.

There may be some 👀 🏠 in the coming months, but remains to be seen. Either way, I’ll be posting!

Big things happening at Baker’s Dozen!

I have acquired beige, one of my favorite genes to make my favorite varieties, and the ever-elusive pearl, all bred by the wondering Beck Watt!

These pearl and silvered mice are so lovely, and I can’t wait to share them and help get them to be a populated variety in the states again.

A few months ago, I made a passing comment about a secret project I was working on.

This is it! A brand new club, welcoming to all, focusing most heavily on community outreach to set ourselves apart while joining the mission of the other mouse clubs.

It is still a work in progress, but we really want to start getting folks involved in our progress! We can’t wait to have you. 💜

It is time - this is the formal announcement of the North American Mouse Club!

Our mission is to provide a welcoming, supportive, and educational environment for the breeding, keeping, caring, and humane treatment of mice. We intend to do this through sponsoring shows, education about breeding and keeping mice, maintaining a standard to breed toward, keeping an active breeder listing, and maintaining resources for membership and owner education.

Behind the scenes, the Founders have been working with love to build this club for six months. It has taken a number of meetings that lasted for many hours; several days of art and design for our logo; hours and hours of conversation; working with several different agencies to ensure we had the proper business information ready to go; and of course, money from our own pockets to support this endeavor.

We are extremely eager to welcome you - our community - in this endeavor. While club membership is not yet open, we have many ways you can support us while you wait!

22 day old black eyed silver fox doeling 🖤

Fun fact: black eyed silver was here before pink eyed silver and was standardized first. I have both black eyed silver fox (BESF) and pink eyed silver tan (PEST) in my Mousery at this time, and both totally have my heart!

To people who are “normal,” there is no such thing as a heart mouse.

Gerald (named by my boyfriend’s son) was an immediate reminder of everything I love about mice. So inquisitive, so calm, so happy to be with companions, so happy to hang out with humans. He would come out of his house every time I went into my mouse room and say hello. If he was in your hand, he’d watch you with his sweet expression, always curious about what was going on - and always happy to accept the bribery of sunflower seeds.

He was an incredible creature. I knew very quickly that he would get to live out his days at my Mousery, even when he out produced himself, as a beloved pet.

Gerald was in my care over a year. He loved his job (😏), he loved his friends, he loved people. Any time I introduced someone to my mice, he was first up - Gerald, the king. The best big guy.

Today he was let go, humanely, peacefully. His body is buried in a potted plant, so that wherever I end up, he will be with me.

I will always remember and love Gerald. I am so grateful that I got so much time with him.

Don’t you love trying to take a picture of a mouse and they decide to be VERY unphotogenic? 🤣

Recessive yellow doe, born 12.6.2025 - I like to give my yellows a while to clear out from soot as they mature before deciding who I will keep for breeding!

I’ve been fighting a losing battle of vibrancy and soot in my yellows, so as a result I’ve been focusing on type as priority because in these mice, it’s been easier to keep hold of.

This is one of my younger doelings, and I’m looking forward to breeding her to my buck on my next pairing cycle 🙂 I love her big eyes and soft, curious expression.

As far as color goes she leaves a lot to be desired but at least she’s got even coloration and is not so sooty she thinks she’s a chocolate in a yellow body.
