Happy Christmas Eve! We wanted to share some photos from our visit yesterday with the employees of Grant Wood AEA. Every year the staff at Grant Wood AEA do an angel tree for our foster dogs. We give them a few ideas of things we can us for each dog and they always come through with wonderful gifts for our dogs. We bring a few dogs along to thank them. This year we brought Coco's 6 puppies that were a huge hit. It was great socialization for the puppies, too. The adult dogs we brought were Baldwin, who turned out to be the Wal-mart greeter, as well asMabel and Moo.

We are so thankful to have such great support and enthusiasim from the staff at Grant Wood. They are a super group of dog lovers. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Lily the Lab met her new parents on Sunday, and it didn’t take long for everyone to know it was a perfect match. Last night, her dad picked her up from her foster home and took her home for good.

This sweet girl has waited patiently for her second chance, and now she finally has the loving family she deserves. We’re so happy for Lily and her new parents and can’t wait to see her thrive in her forever home.

Congratulations, Lily!

Today is the final post with Princess. She was adopted last evening and this is her adoption photo with her new family. Princess is in the middle being held by the youngest of the family. She now has four young people and two canine siblings to play with. One the left is Marty the terrier and on the right is Oliver the Golden. Princess was comfortable right away and spent her first night alternating between playing and napping, which is the life every puppy wants. Princess got a new name for Christmas and will now be called Indigo. We are so happy that Princess found the perfect home before Christmas. Santa came through for her. Happy Holidays!!

Christmas came early for us this year. We don’t remember putting 5 puppies on our Christmas list.
Saturday morning we received a call from a woman outside Mt. Vernon who reported that three puppies had been dumped and were running through the fields and woods near her home. She wasn’t able to catch them. We were already stretched thin and referred her to Paws of Hope, hoping they could help.
By Sunday, the story started to come together.
On Sunday, the owner was able to catch two of the puppies, and Paws of Hope set traps for the remaining three. Around the same time, we learned that a woman had posted on Friday that her boyfriend had stolen her seven dogs and dumped them. She quickly recovered the adult dogs, but until Sunday afternoon, we didn’t realize these three loose puppies were part of those seven dogs.
Late Sunday afternoon, Paws of Hope trapped one female puppy. We got her bathed and tucked safely into a quarantine kennel. This morning, the owner turned the two puppies she had caught over to Paws of Hope, who then brought them to us. Unfortunately, the owner is homeless and unable to care for them.
We hadn’t even finished bathing those two puppies when puppy number four went into the trap. We picked him up—and before we were quite finished with him, the fifth puppy also went into the trap.
We have spent the day bathing puppies and getting burs off of them.
These puppies are 16 weeks old and will remain in quarantine until we are confident they were not exposed to parvo or distemper. Once cleared, they will move into foster homes and begin their next chapter.
Thank you to Paws of Hope and everyone who worked together to make sure these puppies were safe.
Please Santa, no more presents!

Well, she finally did it. My foster mom put the Christmas tree sweater on me. As you can see in the picture there is a star that lights up on the top. It is really on a hood, but I didn't like it on my head so this is the best photo my foster mom got. There is a reason that today was the Christmas tree sweater. There will be one more picture of me. It will be my adoption photo with my new family!!! I know I am going to love it there. Check back for my last photo and thank you for following my adoption story.

Welcome to rescue, Clara!

Last Sunday, Clara was found as a stray six miles outside of Bethany, wandering in sleet and frigid temperatures. Her nails were worn down to the quick, and her feet were bleeding—clear signs she’d been struggling to survive for some time.

Because Clara was found outside the city limits, she wasn’t able to go to the pound. Thankfully, one of our amazing foster moms stepped in, went to get her, and kept Clara safe, warm, and cared for throughout the week.

Today, Clara made the trip north and settled into her foster home here, where her healing can truly begin. She weighs 33 pounds and is estimated to be 9–12 months old, she is still very much a puppy who has already endured far too much.

Clara is no longer facing the cold alone. She’s safe and warm. Surrounded by kindness, and ready for brighter days ahead.

It is your holiday pup Princess again today. It is day 11. Today's sweater is less festive and more classic. Since the sweater and I are both black it is more of a formal look. Let my caretakers know if you liked a series like this or if you are tired of seeing me every day. Check in tomorrow though. My foster mom says it might be the day for the Xmas tree sweater. You don't want to miss that!

Hey everyone! It is day 10 of my holiday sweater posts. My foster mom thought she was running out of sweaters for me, but she found a few more today. So I think we can continue with no repeats. Today I am sporting more of a sweatshirt than a sweater, but it says Merry Christmas on it. I had a good day today. I hope you did, too. See you tomorrow!

This afternoon we welcomed two new dogs into rescue.
Both came to us from the Bethany Pound, and both desperately needed a safe place to land.

The first is Delilah. Delilah had been running loose in sleet and sub-zero temperatures for several days before she finally made it to the pound. She did have an owner, but as you can see from her body condition, she wasn’t being cared for and was not returned to her owner. Delilah is about 2 years old and weighs around 55 pounds. She’s safe, warm, and no longer fighting the cold to survive.

The second dog is Norton. Norton and his canine companion were found in an apartment after their owner was hospitalized. Someone was supposed to be caring for them, but wasn’t. They were discovered by the landlord two weeks later. The owner will not be returning home.

We were able to bring Norton into foster care—he’s about 2–3 years old and weighs 66 pounds. We had to leave his white fluffy buddy behind. We simply do not have a foster home for him yet. He doesn’t even have a name, just an impound number.

If anyone is willing to foster this sweet boy, please reach out to us. Saying yes to fostering means saving a life—and sometimes, it means keeping best friends from being left behind. 💔🐶

Do you set an alarm for 5 am to go running? Keep scrolling.
Do you love long walks on the beach? Keep scrolling.
Do you like a dog who sleeps in, waits patiently for you to wake up, and believes mornings should be taken slowly? Mabel could be your girl.
Meet Mabel, a senior, deaf Boxer mix weighing about 45 pounds and fully committed to a relaxed lifestyle. Mabel will happily softly snore until you are ready to get up
Mabel loves sleeping in bed with her people, and while she’s very happy to be there, she will need a little help getting in and out of bed. Once she’s settled, she’s not going anywhere—except maybe deeper into dreamland.
Mabel came into rescue under heartbreaking circumstances. She was abandoned by the senior minister at Highway Christian Church in Bethany when he moved away, leaving her behind and vulnerable to coyotes. Despite that betrayal, Mabel still believes people can be good and is ready for a soft place to land.
She does great with other dogs and prefers calm companions. Mabel has osteoarthritis in her front elbows, which have been fully evaluated with X-rays and a CT scan at BluePearl Des Moines. Because of this, her exercise needs are minimal.
Being deaf doesn’t slow Mabel down one bit. She’s observant, gentle, and incredibly easy to live with. Her ideal home is one that values cozy nights, slow mornings, and unconditional love.
If you’re looking for a sweet, snoring, bed-sharing couch potato who will happily match your pace, Mabel is ready to move in.
Mabel is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. She has had full blood work done and it looks great.
If you’d like to meet Mabel, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org.
If you have questions about Mabel you can email [email protected] or call 319-929-6657.

Nyxi is a sweet 14-month-old Terrier mix weighing 16 pounds who is looking for a calm, understanding home where she can continue to feel safe and loved. She came into rescue with her brother, Dakota, when their dad was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment.
When Nyxi arrived, she was crawling with fleas and had lost much of her fur. With proper care, treatment, and good nutrition, she is now comfortable and healing—her coat is slowly growing back, and she continues to improve every day.
Nyxi does great with other dogs and enjoys their company. She also does fine with cats. She is very well house trained and, like her brother, has never been kenneled. Nyxi has lived a very quiet, sheltered life, so many normal experiences are new to her.
Nyxi has never been on a leash before coming into rescue and currently freezes when one is put on. Because of this, she will need a physically fenced yard, which is what she’s familiar with and where she feels safest. With patience and gentle encouragement, she will continue to gain confidence.
Nyxi would do best in a quiet, adult home. She has not been around small children and would be happiest in a low-key environment where she can settle in at her own pace.
Nyxi is a gentle soul who has already come a long way. With the right home and a little patience, she will make a loving, loyal companion.
Nyxi is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
If you’d like to meet Nyxi, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org.
If you have questions about Nyxi you can email [email protected] or call 319-929-6657.

Dakota is a sweet, gentle 14-month-old Terrier mix weighing 23 pounds who is looking for a calm, patient home to help him discover the world at his own pace. He came into rescue with his sister, Nyxi, when their dad was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment.
Dakota does wonderfully with other dogs and truly enjoys playtime with canine friends. He also does just fine with cats. In the home, Dakota is very well house trained and has never been kenneled—he’s accustomed to living as part of the household.
Because Dakota has lived a very quiet, sheltered life, many everyday experiences are still new to him. He has never been on a leash before coming into rescue and currently freezes when one is put on. For this reason, Dakota will need a physically fenced yard, which is what he’s used to and where he feels safe. With time, patience, and gentle guidance, he’ll continue to build confidence.
Dakota would do best in a quiet, adult home. He has not been around small children and prefers a calm environment where life moves at an easy, predictable pace.
If you’re someone who understands shy dogs and finds joy in watching confidence slowly bloom, Dakota could be a wonderful companion. He’s a good boy with a soft heart, just waiting for the right home to help him feel safe and secure.
Dakota is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
If you’d like to meet Dakota, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org.
If you have questions about Dakota you can email [email protected] or call 319-929-6657.
