Dusty officially hit the jackpot tonight.

After his final recheck at the vet this afternoon, this little 8 year old, 7 pound Yorkie made it official and joined the Wagner pack for good. Dusty, now renamed Figgy, is settling into a home already filled with familiar FFR faces. In the photo with all the dogs, Figgy is on the bottom right next to FFR alum Hunny, who is next to FFR alum Vivvy.

Figgy came into rescue needing some care and a fresh start. Tonight he walked straight into the kind of future every rescue dog deserves: safety, love, and a mom who already adores him.

Huxley the Shih Tzu has officially found his happily ever after. ❤

He met his new parents on Saturday and it was pretty much love at first sight for everyone involved. Huxley turned on the charm, his new parents completely fell for him, and honestly the whole thing unfolded like a tiny fluffy rom-com.

By yesterday, Huxley was heading home.

Some matches just feel easy from the very beginning. Like the dog already knows. Huxley jumped into their laps like he had been waiting for them all along, and they looked at him like they couldn’t believe he was real.

We are so excited for this sweet boy and his new family. We have a feeling his new home is about to be filled with the soundtrack of squeaky toys and a very happy little dog.

Bear wasted absolutely no time finding his family. Five days. That’s it.

Apparently the universe saw his gray face and said, “Yeah, we’re not letting this one stay available for long.”

Bear has officially been adopted and is settling into his new home where we suspect he will quickly take over the couch, the hearts of his humans, and possibly all household snack supervision duties.

Happy life, sweet boy. Now go enjoy being exactly as spoiled as you were always meant to be.

Dakota has officially been adopted.

After six months of waiting for the right family, Dakota is finally heading home with previous adopters who knew they needed him in their lives. We could not be happier for this boy.

You probably know Dakota as “the dog with the one ear always up,” which honestly made him look permanently concerned that someone nearby might be opening a bag of treats. He put both ears up for his adoption photo.

But beyond the unforgettable ear, Dakota is just a really good dog. Sweet, loyal, goofy, and so deserving of a family to call his own.

The long wait is over, buddy. ️

Meet Annie 💛
Annie is a 10-year-old, 29-pound Pug mix with a whole lot of personality packed into one adorable little body.
She loves people, loves attention, and truly just wants to be wherever her humans are. If you are watching TV, Annie would like to be sitting beside you. If you are going to bed, Annie plans to join you there too. At night she happily jumps into bed, snuggles up close, sleeps through the night, and won’t even think about getting up before her people do.
Annie is playful and would enjoy another friendly, playful dog in her new home. She doesn’t hear very well, although it actually took over a week for her foster family to realize it because she watches her people so closely and pays such careful attention to everything around her. Because of her hearing loss, a physically fenced yard is required to help keep her safe.
She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys going out and about with her people. Annie is generally very quiet and rarely barks, but when her humans come home, she gives the cutest little “awooo” greetings to let everyone know exactly how happy she is to see them again.
Annie is not a fan of thunderstorms and stays especially close during bad weather. If a storm rolls through at night, she will disappear under the covers until the scary noises pass.
Like many senior dogs, Annie has a few little old lady bumps. Her veterinarian has checked them, and they are lipomas, which are common benign fatty lumps in older dogs.
Annie is looking for a home where someone is around often, cuddles are plentiful, and she never has to wonder whether she belongs. She has already perfected the art of companionship and is ready to spend her senior years loving her people with her whole heart.
Annie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
If you’d like to meet Annie, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org.
If you have questions about Annie you can email [email protected] or call 319-929-6657.

Roux found her family. ❤️

At the end of October, a little Red Heeler was found running loose on the golf course in Independence. While golfers were trying to avoid sand traps, Roux who was only 9 months old, was out there trying to survive. Nobody came looking for her.

Since then, Roux has waited patiently in rescue for someone to finally choose her. She watched other dogs leave, settled into foster care, learned routines, accepted love, and kept hoping her turn would come. And now it has.

Roux officially has a family of her own. No more wondering where she belongs. No more waiting for someone to notice her. No more being the stray dog on the golf course. Now she gets a home, a couch, people who love her, and a future that looks a whole lot brighter than her past.

The best rescue stories are not always the fastest ones. Sometimes they take months of waiting, healing, and trusting before the right people finally appear.

We are so happy Roux’s people found her. 🐾

Max found his mom. ❤️

Today Max is officially home, and somewhere between the leash, the paperwork, and the goodbye hugs, another rescue dog got exactly what every dog hopes for: his person.

The best part of rescue is watching a dog stop wondering where he belongs.

No more waiting.
No more uncertainty.
No more temporary.

Just home.

Max now has someone who will learn his routines, laugh at his quirks, buy him toys he probably doesn’t need, and tell him every single day that he is a good boy. And honestly, we suspect Max plans to take his new responsibilities as “beloved family member” very seriously.

Happy life, sweet boy. We are so glad your story led you here.

Today is National Rescue Dog Day, so naturally we are going to post the dog we have had the longest. If there was ever a dog who deserved her people, it’s Sadie.

Sadie has been in rescue for three years. Three years of watching other dogs come and go. Three years in a foster home waiting for someone to stop scrolling long enough to see her.

In all that time, only two people have come to meet her. We can't understand why.

Sadie is almost 4 years old and weighs 94 pounds of goofy, affectionate, toy-loving personality. She is the kind of dog who tosses her chew toys into the air for herself, chases balls with enthusiasm, and then climbs into your lap like she somehow missed the memo that she is built more like a small horse than a lap dog.

She does well with other dogs. She loves people. She loves playtime, soft places to nap, and being included in daily life.

Sadie does need a physically fenced yard because she enjoys exploring safely, and she would prefer a cat-free home. But beyond that? She’s simply looking for someone willing to give a rescue dog a chance.

National Rescue Dog Day is filled with happy adoption photos, and we love those stories. But there are also dogs like Sadie. Dogs who wait quietly while the world keeps moving around them. Dogs who are wonderful companions but somehow keep getting overlooked.

Sadie doesn’t know she’s our longest-term dog. She just knows that every day she wakes up hopeful, tail wagging, ready to love whoever walks through the door.

Maybe this is the post her future family finally sees.

Maybe her people are out there right now, about to realize the dog they’ve been looking for has been waiting for them all along.

Sadie is housetrained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.

If you would like to meet Sadie please fill out the adoption application on our website: www.furfunrescue.org. If you have questions about Sadie you can contact [email protected] or call 319-929-6657.

Today we welcomed Mickie into rescue.

Mickie is an older Yorkshire Terrier who came from a backyard breeder situation after the breeder was evicted from his home. Mickie was initially given away, but the woman who took him quickly realized he needed far more medical care than she could provide. Thankfully, she made sure he found his way to us instead of letting him continue to suffer quietly.

K9 Kindness currently has two of the female dogs from this same breeder. One is pregnant again, and the other has mammary tumors along with a large growth on her head. Please check out their post and help them if you are able. None of these dogs deserved the lives they were given.

This is the reality behind so many “cheap designer puppies” people find online. Cute puppy pictures get posted on Facebook, puppies are sold quickly to excited families, and buyers think they found a bargain. Meetings happen in parking lots or other public places instead of inside homes where people could actually see the conditions the dogs live in or meet the parents. Years later, rescue ends up meeting the dogs left behind. The mothers with damaged bodies. The seniors with untreated medical issues. The dogs who spent their lives producing puppies while their own needs were ignored.

Anamosa Veterinary Clinic worked Mickie into their schedule this afternoon, and Dr. Jake completed his exam, vaccines, and bloodwork.

Mickie’s left eye is painful, weeping, and oozing. The eye is smaller than the other, produces no tears, and he has no vision in it. It has likely been causing him discomfort for a very long time.

Next Thursday, Mickie will have his first surgery to remove the eye and be neutered. After he recovers from that, he will need a dental procedure and will probably lose most of the 6 to 7 teeth he has remaining.

It is hard to imagine living for years in pain and neglect while still wagging your tail at people. Tonight, Mickie is safe. He has a full belly, a soft bed, and people who already love him.

Tonight, Mickie is loved.

Meet Huxley 🌰
Huxley is a 5-year-old Shih Tzu who came into rescue badly matted and in need of a little TLC. Underneath all that neglected fur was a sweet, affectionate little guy who is very happy to be loved and cared for again.
Huxley is a cuddler at heart. He loves being close to his people and is used to having someone around much of the time. If you sit down, there is a very good chance Huxley will see that as an invitation to join you.
He does well with other dogs, although he doesn’t really understand how to play with them. Humans, however, are much more his speed. Huxley loves to play with his people and will happily bark at you to let you know it is time to participate in the fun.
Toys are one of Huxley’s favorite things in the world. He fully believes toy boxes should be emptied regularly and thoroughly. Squeaky toys are his absolute favorite, and he takes his squeaker quality-control duties very seriously.
Huxley is used to having a physically fenced yard and would love one in his new home. He also enjoys going for walks and exploring the neighborhood at a nice Shih Tzu pace.
At bedtime, Huxley sleeps quietly in a dog bed beside his humans’ bed. He is doing well with house training, but like many dogs adjusting to a new environment, he will need supervision, consistency, and frequent potty breaks while he settles in.
Huxley is looking for a home where he can be loved, included, played with often, and spoiled a little bit the way every former scruffy dog deserves to be.
Huxley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
If you’d like to meet Huxley, please fill out an adoption application at www.furfunrescue.org.
If you have questions about Huxley you can email [email protected] or call 319-929-6657.
