Our foster, Darcy, is still up for adoption!

Darcy is an 8 month old mini aussie who would really love to find her forever family before Christmas. She is very shy at first, but once she decides you are safe, she turns into a talkative little firecracker with plenty of puppy energy and a big personality.

Darcy is not a daycare or dog park girl; instead, she wants to do things with her person instead of being dropped into busy environments. She is incredibly sweet once she bonds, and she just wants someone who understands that trust builds slowly. When it does, she becomes your little shadow. She would love a fenced in yard where she can zoom around and get her energy out. She also loves car rides to get a pup cup, benebones, and going for walks.

Darcy would prefer a home without young kids. She is a herding breed and she displays those instincts, so we are looking for someone who understands Australian shepherds or similar breeds. She needs structure, patience, and someone who can appreciate a smart dog with lots of opinions.

If you think you might be the right match for this sweet, spicy girl, please reach out to us. Also note: a meet and greet will be required! Help us find this girl a home by sharing this post 🥰

🗣 This quote is one I say to a lot of my clients, but especially the ones who have dogs with stranger danger, anxiety around certain people, or with dogs who don’t like petting from unfamiliar people or petting in general.

🌎 As a society, I think we tend to “feel bad” telling people our dogs need space or that they can’t be pet or touched. Also, people sometimes tend to feel there’s something “wrong” with dogs who won’t just willingly allow complete strangers to come waltzing over to immediately talk to them, touch them, hug them, and gaze at them.

🐕 So if you have a dog who needs some space, I am here to tell you that there is nothing “wrong” with your dog! They just have feelings and boundaries that we need to respect, and help manage and train properly to improve their reactions over time.

🐾 We of course want to help them feel better in these situations that make them uncomfortable, and training can certainly assist with that. But some reactive dogs or dogs who don’t want to be handled by strangers, won’t all of a sudden become social butterflies, if ever. As pet parents, our job is to respect our dog’s boundaries and work with them to make better choices.

🐶 Dogs, like people, are allowed to say no, to not want to stop and hug a stranger, to not want to be gazed at by unfamiliar people or be touched by any random person on the street.

👍🏽 It’s totally ok for your dog to say no, although it should be our goal as their humans to not make them feel like they have to. Tell people no for them - be their advocate!

Here are some ways to say no for your dog:
- “We are training right now. ”
- “She needs space.”
- “We are working on ignoring people.”
- “Not today.”

🚨 Bottom line: speak up for your dog. Don’t be afraid to tell strangers no on behalf of your dog. Remember, your dog is your family and you’ll probably never see Bob from the hardware store ever again. So don’t appease a stranger at the cost of your family member’s feelings or well-being. 💕

📣 Daycare announcement! 📣

We are getting close to opening our daycare! For those of you who are interested, here’s what you can expect:

🐾 Small play groups: Unlike typical dog daycares, we focus on smaller, carefully selected play groups. We will have a very limited number of spots for daycare each day. This is to maximize safety, as well as making sure each dog has a positive and stress-free experience.

🐾 Fenced in outdoor play area: The outdoor yard is secured with 6ft tall fencing to ensure a safe environment. There is also a climate-controlled indoor play area.

🐾 Group training and enrichment sessions: Our daycare days are carefully planned out to provide structure, practice manners, and teach appropriate play.

🐾 Continuous supervision: Your dogs will be supervised constantly the entire day they are in our care.

We have our permit from the town, passed our inspection and got our license from the state, and are insured. Now, we are just finishing up some final touches and will be ready to open within a few weeks!

What we are doing now is gathering all client information so that we will be ready to accept dogs as soon as we open. So, if you are interested in our daycare, please email us at [email protected] so that we can send you the information we will need (this will include a copy of your dog’s up-to-date vaccinations!) If you have already emailed us, we will be reaching out to you shortly! We are so excited to welcome you and your dogs to Pine State Paws!

Our fosters will be available for adoption soon!! Please read below for more info.

Meet Fletcher (male, black tri) and Darcy (female, blue merle). They are both mini Aussies and are almost 5 months old. They had a bit of a rough start in life, but they’re getting braver and more confident every day.

They’ll likely be in foster care with us for a couple more weeks, but if you’re interested in adopting, now’s the time to reach out. We expect they’ll get a lot of interest once they’re officially up for adoption, so you’ll want to be first in line!

They will both need continued training, patience, and more exposure to the world around them. They’re both very sweet and smart, and they are learning what it means to be loved. They will do best in homes that are ready to continue their training and will give them lots of patience as they learn about the world.

Feel free to message us with any questions or if you are interested. Please share this post to get them some exposure! If you or someone you know is interested, message us and we can set up a meet and greet ☺️

How cute are these two 🥹 Tomorrow will make one week since they’ve been fostering with us, so we wanted to share an update. They’ve been having a great time learning about the world and exploring outside. They’re also doing really well with potty training, walking on leash, and they’re learning how to play. Fletcher is very goofy and likes to start trouble (in your typical puppy way), and is building his confidence around people. Darcy is full of attitude and learned that she has a voice, and she loves to use it. She’s still pretty shy around people, but is making progress. We are really happy to see their improvements, and we look forward to watching them continue to learn!

Today would have been Nahla’s 12th birthday (miss you, old lady🩷) We like to think she sent us some luck, because we passed our state inspection today! That means we’re one step closer to opening our daycare. There are still some renovations/final touches we want to complete, but we can’t wait to welcome you and your dogs soon!

If you have not already, you can email us at [email protected] to be added to our daycare list. That way, you’ll be notified of any updates and we will send you the link to book once we officially open! 🐶🐾
