I truly do love this crazy life of mine with transport. I’ve been able to meet people that I’d have never met and they’ve become Great friends. I’ve also seen so much of our world that I feel blessed beyond!
People see the adorable pets we transport and are very envious of being able to travel with such creatures. But that’s only part of what we do as transporters—in this case, a flight nanny.
My 18 hours of transport began in Norway with a beautiful Burmese kitten who had personality plus and wanted to receive her petting while she purred with contentment. But once I put her in the carrier—her contentment quickly switched to “No, MEOWWW MMMMEEEEOOOWWWW, get me
Out—MMMMEEEEOOOOOWWWW!” She was heard all by all at 4 am throughout the airport.
And the looks I received were varied— but mostly the kind that indicated Ms Meow Meow and I were not welcomed.
Gate employees sought me out, told me that the captain wanted me to board last. They stated that if she did not quiet down I was not going to be permitted on the flight.
Oh wow! She was just protesting and was just so nervous. And sad thing—she is a true lovable Kitten.
Ms Meow Meow approached the counter and I held my shoulders back, smiled and scanned my ticket. Then I was ESCORTED to the plane where the captain met me on the stairs to the plane outside in pouring rain and questioned me. She allowed me on the plane but stated if the kitten continued she would call ahead and deny my next flight from Amsterdam home. She was very kind about the message and I completely understood the situation. But that did not Help my apprehension of being stuck in Norway—or for that matter, Amsterdam.
With prayers going up by myself and those I’d confided in, Ms Meow Meow and I entered the plane and took our seat. With her placed at my feet in front of me she began to quiet down.
Thank goodness she calmed down.
My flight attendant was so calming to me and he really did make a difference in my anxious attitude!! In the Middle of the flight he whispered to me—I told the captain all was calm and grand!
Wonderful! Music to my ears but I still had to get Ms Meow Meow on the flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. Once the plane stopped she woke up and begin telling everyone she was in this carrier and wanted out to explore everything!
NEXT, I had another unexpected hurdle to jump over before I could board. For some reason my passport was not clearing as I scanned my ticket. Okay! No worries! Right?!!
Wrong!
Ms Meow Meow and I held up the boarding process because something was wrong, but what exactly—I had no idea. Why? I only speak English! Therefore I did not understand what was being said about MY situation. And Ms Meow Meow was beginning to protest louder!
So many thoughts were already racing through my mind! Wanting to
Get on the plane as quickly as possible. Now I’m thinking…
“Oh No! What if they tell me We can’t board the plane? Please Ms Meow Meow, shhhh!”
After what felt like an hour but was probably just 20 minutes I was thanked for my patience, handed my new boarding pass with an upgraded seat.
Kindness and patience go a long way. Airline employees are doing their jobs! And we are all human.
Once on the plane Ms Meow Meow calmed down quickly and remained a good kitty the entire flight! She stayed with me another night and after her new mama picked her up, I missed her meows! She was extremely well behaved otherwise and loved to play. She wanted to be loved and touched.
And so once I got home, one fear of all transporters I know came true.
My nightmare, as I had double booked flights for Saturday (Today).
So after speaking with gracious clients and juggling flights around I’m able to deliver both by the end of the day. God does answer prayers!
Just delivered a precious kitten in Jax (nonstop from CVG). Now I’m flying to STL (layover is in Baltimore) to pickup a puppy. On to LAX (Layover in Dallas). I have 45 minutes to meet the puppy family and board my flight at another terminal. I’ll fly home. Overnight (layover in Chicago) arriving CVG T 9:45am.
These flight plans have been slightly changed due to a flight delay in STL but it will not affect the rest of the flights.
Fingers crossed all goes well. And if it doesn’t…there’s always Plan A, B, C and so on!
