With the forecasted Winter Storm and frigid temps, we want to help you get any animals that have to stay outside prepped for the weather.

We set up an account at Lewisburg Farm Center. Marshall County residents can pick up one 1 free bale of straw per household. You must pick up at their location.

We also have a few extra wire crates to help keep dogs indoors if needed. Text our Google number at 931-292-2707.

Other Winter Safety tips:
1. Bang on the hood of your vehicle before starting...small animals like kittens seek the warmth
2. Use straw not blankets in outdoor dog houses. Blankets can get wet and freeze.
3. Give extra food to help animals take in extra calories to help stay warm
4. Wipe your dog's paws after a walk
5. Use a pet safe ice melt on sidewalks
6. Monitor your pets for signs of hypothermia or frost bite

If you see pets in distress or lack of shelter, report for an animal welfare check by call 931-359-7215.

With the frigid temps forecasted over the next few days, we have some outdoor cat houses available to help out. We don't have any dog houses right now but do have some cedar shavings to add into a dog house for extra warmth or some crates to loan if you are able to keep your dog indoors until it warms back up.

Stop by Lucky's Cat House today until 4pm or tomorrow 12-4.

If you’ve been following us since our days as Lewisburg Animal Shelter Volunteers you may remember our shelter kitty Muffs. 💗 🐈‍⬛

After she retired from shelter kitty/dog tester/mouse catching duties, she went to live with my family and me, as I was the former shelter vol coordinator and retired shelter manager so we were as attached to her as she was to us.

Muffs was adopted by the volunteers when their program started in 2012 from Bedford County Animal Shelter. They guessed her age as 5-6 years old at that time, so judging by that our Muffs was 18-19 years old as of today.

She would drive us crazy some days at the shelter when she would get out the door and go on her ‘walkabouts’ as we called them, sneaking out when the ACOs brought a dog in and left the front door open. Scared us silly and we would put out an Amber alert for her to all of our followers. She would be found at the bank next door, the water treatment plant next door, and even one day making it to the mini golf course! Luckily she didn’t get to the main road and into traffic!

Sadly over the past couple of months she developed a very fast growing tumor in her nasal cavity/front lobe, so today with my daughter and I by her side and the assistance of Dr Grissom, she moved on to the Rainbow Bridge with the same character and grace she always had on a day to day basis. Literally purring as she fell asleep. That was our Muffs.

She will be missed by all who knew her, but will be remembered fondly and with much love as the wonderful, charismatic, and beautiful creature that she was. With a bit of a silly girl slapping you as you walked by her at times attitude too 😘

We sure will miss her around here. My kids have literally grown up with her first at the shelter then here at home. My daughter was 9 and my son only 6 when she came into our lives. Now they are 21 and 19 so they’ve grown up with her.

She is buried down in my garden here at the house so every day I still get to feel her presence near me 💕 🐈‍⬛

We love you Muffsy kitty. Run free without pain our dear sweet girl til we see you again 😚 💗 🌈 🌉 🐈‍⬛

Our Story

The Lewisburg Animal Shelter Volunteers have rebranded ourselves in 2020 to evolve into the position we are now filling in the Marshall County community. We are now the Lewisburg Animal Alliance. We are still a 501c3. The Mission of the Lewisburg Animal Alliance is to provide resources in the way of volunteers, financial aide, and supplies for stray and abandoned animals in Marshall County. The Lewisburg Animal Alliance will also operate and maintain the local Pet Food and Pet Supply Pantry for the residents of and rescues based in Marshall County and distribute as requested and as the need arises.

In 2012 the Volunteer Program officially started at the Lewisburg Animal Shelter under the city's direction. From 2012-2019 it was overseen by the Police Department. A Volunteer Coordinator had constantly been at it's helm. In 2016, a Shelter manager was hired in at the shelter and operated the shelter from August of 2016-March of 2019. After her resignation, the volunteers maintained the operations and oversaw the adoptions of dogs until 2 new co-managers were hired in September 1st of this year. The Volunteers are very important to the maintenance and overall health and well being of the shelter and it's animals. The managers are now overseen by a 3 member Board of Directors who set policy and procedures for the shelter in it's current form. While the volunteers assist the managers, AWOs, and the city at the shelter, they are not the shelter, and any questions or inquiries regarding the operations or the dogs of the shelter can be directed to the Shelter at 931-359-5948 or by email to [email protected].

We were able to operate the Lewisburg Animal Shelter Volunteers Cat Program from 2017-September of 2019 at the shelter with the city’s permission. When the Shelter Board took over, that program was discontinued. During it’s run, the vols adopted out over 50+ cats in their care.
