We have received reports of abnormal bear activity today in the area around Westpark Golf Course in Leesburg, in between Woodburn Rd and Hawling Place, and last night on Foxfield Lane. Bears are typically shy around humans, however, one or more bears have been unusually brazen, and this morning, behaved aggressively towards a leashed dog. This is extremely unusual and could be due to a number of factors, including, but not limited to, nearby cubs, disease, or being fed by humans.

We are asking our community to be bear smart while we work with our colleagues at the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources to work on this situation and keep everyone safe.

In the meantime:
-If you see a bear, please give them as much distance as possible.
-If a bear approaches you, make loud noises, and appear "big" by waving your arms and stomping your feet. If you are at home, bang pots and pans.
-Take down your birdfeeders. Birdseed is a bear favorite, and this time of year, our wild feathered friends have many food sources to choose from.
-Make sure trash and grills are secured in bear traffic areas. This may mean putting them in your garage overnight.
-Make sure your pets are vaccinated for rabies, in the event that they encounter a wild animal who may carry the disease.
-NEVER feed a bear. A bear who becomes accustomed to humans providing a food source develops unsafe behaviors, and is not compatible with suburban life.

If you see a bear actively approaching you or your pets, not running away when you make loud noises, or acting aggressively, please call Loudoun County Animal Services at 703-777-0406 immediately.

Guide To Disaster Preparedness For Pet Owners

June is National Pet Preparedness Month, giving us all a helpful reminder of what to do in case of an emergency or natural disaster. A good disaster preparedness plan not only keeps you and your pets safe, but it also reduces the burden on first responders, who have limited resources during a disaster.

Disasters can strike at a moment’s notice. If your area needs to be evacuated, the last decision you want to be faced with is leaving your pet behind or sticking it out at home. And if you do stay home with your pet but need to be rescued, there’s a good chance first responders won’t be able t...

Maid Marian of the Robin Hood and His Band of Merry Kittens litter is overcome by how generous so many have been in donating supplies for her, her siblings, and friends! She asked us to say a big “Thank You!” to our wonderful community for the support!

Marian has seen us working the phones and emails and knows more kittens and mamas are coming in often. She asked us to also to let you know we can use more formula, food, and litter if possible. Pixie and Pucka are feeling quite sad
Missing the home and family they had
It’s not their fault that they’ve come back to we
Their family was moving to a place ‘cross the sea

Pixie and Pucka are girls of ‘round 4
They’re beautiful girls we know you’ll adore
They’re playful and sweet with good manners too
They know where to scratch and to p*e and to poo

Pixie’s the gray with luxurious locks
Pucka’s all black even down to her socks
They’re stuck to each other like a covalent bond
Their history together makes their chemistry strong

They lived with a dog in the last home they had
With proper introductions we doubt they’d be mad
There were kids in that home our sweet gals once knew
They’d be happy to love kids in their future home too

They are staying at the Leesburg Petco and would love to meet you!

There are sweet beans and savory beans and these Beans have toe beans and these toe beans belong to our kitty Beans, of course!

Jelly and Pinto, our Bean Boys, are absolutely delectable! Of our tiger-like tabby twosome, Jelly is the darker tabby. Pinto is lighter in color and bigger in size. Both boys are very sweet and friendly. They have lived with kids and a dog. They loved the kids. We would suggest a slow introduction period with new dogs. They are bonded brothers who will need a home together.

These darling boys would be so grateful for a second chance at a loving furrever home. If you are interested in meeting them, they are showing off their handsome selves at the Petco in Leesburg.

Jelly and Pinto are up-to-date on their vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. They’re ready to pack up their condo at Petco and let the next lucky residents move on in! Won’t you help?

Peggy has quite a “tail” to tell about how she became a tri-pod kitty. Check out our website for more information and how you could help her find her furrever home.

“Oh, hey. What? I think you must’ve meant to click on one of the other cats. Don’t worry about it. It happens to me all the time. Why? Well, who wants a three-legged cat with RBF? What’s RBF? You’ve never heard of RBF? Well, I’ll tell you exactly what it is. I hear it enough. It’s “Resting Bleep Face”. Not resting bleep face, resting bleep face. Oh good grief! Well, you get the point. Moving on. Why do I have RBF? Trust me pal, if you were me, you would too.“

Update- Sat. 5/22 BANDIT WAS ADOPTED TODAY!!!
Who knows where his new mamma saw him, but thank you for all your shares!

This is what being surrendered at age 11 looks like. Terrified and depressed Bandit did nothing wrong, but after all this time with one owner, "allergies" came up. Yes, we know at first glance (and second too) this is awful, infuriating and just plain heartbreaking. But while allergies may seem like a bogus excuse, please consider that:
1- Shaming people who surrender their pets only causes future owners to *abandon* them of out fear out being shamed. Shaming helps no one. Post a unicorn in the comments if you prefer to express your feelings. 🦄
2. People DO develop allergies later in life. Whether that is the case here or not, it's not productive to curse the owner or wish them harm as we have seen on other posts. 🦄
3. Sometimes, people who don't have allergies move in with people who do-- in-laws, boyfriends, roommates. Sometimes it comes down to money and moving in with an allergic person is not a choice. Ever been there? We have. 🦄
4. As for taking medicine for said allergies- maybe taking 1 more medicine on top of the several others you take is not a good idea. Or asking an infant to take allergy medicine is not a great idea either. 🦄

So while we have no idea if the person who surrendered poor Bandit is legit or not-- we are well aware there are a lot of heartless subhumans out there- shaming the owner is not the way to go.

You want to help him or other blameless pets? Call the shelter and foster him if they will allow it. Better yet, adopt him. Sure, you have 3 cats and tennis elbow and little money, so you can't. Then volunteer at a local facility. There are dozens of ways to volunteer, even from home. (Don't just be an anonymous keyboard complainer, DO SOMETHING. Now look, you got me started.) 🦄

Anyway. Back to Bandit. He's terrified, won't even lift his head. He'll accept pets, though. More about him at Spotsylvania Animal Shelter. 450 TV Drive, Fredericksburg, VA. They are open for adoptions from noon to 4:30 Tuesday through Saturday. The number is (540) 507-7459 to arrange a time to meet this sweet guy.

We welcome comments, but not negativity. Unicorns are always totally acceptable comments. 🦄🦄

We recently celebrated 2 years with Peach are finding her at LCHS, best dog we could have imagined, here is a recent picture with her suspiciously snuggling a stuffy (of me) supervising laundry being folded.
This is a great reminder; whether you have pets or not.
Yes!
This is a long shot, but... A family adopted a female #tortoiseshell #cat from me about ten years ago (I rescued/adopted a pregnant cat who had kittens). When that family moved to an apartment in 2013, they gave their cat, named K-T, to their cousins who were renting a house with some barns in #Purcellville and K-T became a barn cat. Unfortunately, the cousins moved away a few years ago and left K-T behind at the residence/barns. I just learned about this from K-T's original owners and I made contact with the current renter, but he said he has never seen K-T. I am just wondering if anyone in this area has ever seen K-T or has possibly even given her a home? I'm saddened by this situation and just hope & pray that K-T is being cared for. Of course, I would adopt her today if she was found and didn't have a home. I still have K-T's mama cat and two other siblings. As far as I know, K-T was last seen around Hillsboro Rd/Short Hill Rd area not far from the Loudoun Nursery, Purcellville Water Treatment Plant, The Mews, Woodgrove High School and Walsh Family Wine. These photos are from 2013. (Is anyone able to tag these locations)? Are there any cat colonies around here? If you know of anywhere else I can post this, please let me know (I reside in Hampton Roads). Thank you so much. ❤️
HELP FIND SAMUEL Sioma (Samuel, Sam) is a black domestic SH cat 1 year old. “Bilingual”: responds to “Ks-ks-ks” and “kitty kitty kitty”. It has been a little bit over a year since we brought Mayo home from the shelter. She has become a happy kitty even though she spent the first couple of weeks under the bed.
We adopted Willow (seen at the end of the video) last year and her momma from Humane Society of Loudoun. Yes, when we adopt them, we love them and their mischiefs. I can’t keep them off the tree. They keep on steeling the ornaments. 😂
