During the Covid-19 outbreak, I have not been doing any training. My husband's work schedule has changed and I have had extra duties at home with my children which have made it imposible to have any availibility for classes or private lessons. I apreciate you all very much and I hope one day soon I can get back to doing what I love so much; Helping people with their dogs.

When some dogs are excited, they show their love and attention in challenging ways—treating people like chew toys. Here's how to handle puppy nipping.

Many dogs dart out the door and get lost during holidays. Here's a few easy preventative steps to keep your dog safe.

Got a jumper?

Stressed thinking about how your pup will jump all over your holiday visitors as soon as they set foot in the door?

Whether you're still working on perfecting your "Sit to Greet," or you just want to make things simple for the day, here are several strategies that you can employ to prevent impolite greetings. Be sure to give your dog a Kong or other work-to-eat toy to occupy him if you go for options 1 or 2, and have some treats in your pocket to reward sits if you choose option 3.

Management is about prevention, but it is also super important during training so that your dog isn't "winning" (i.e. jumping) some of the time. This makes the behavior very hard to stop, even with training.

As the day goes on and the excitement wears down, you may be able to transition to a down-stay or move from option 2 to 3, for example. Just remember to meet your dog where he is and never to apologize for working on training!

This is the soul with whom you will be sharing the earth for the next however many years; you're in this together. This dog will see you thru your most ecstatic events, and will also watch you break down & cry. This dog will be the one you find yourself talking to when you don't even realize that you're talking out loud. This dog will know what you're saying even if you don't say it out loud anyway. This dog will feel your energy, and will react to your behavior. Be careful with how you treat this soul.

You have an obligation to take care of this life which you have been given. This dog is yours to shape, but remember that your dog is a reflection of you. Never punish a dog for acting like one. It is your responsibility to set your dog up to succeed, to reward whatever behaviors you'd like to see more of, and to properly redirect from ones you don't. If you feel like you need to correct your dog, or are losing touch with the mutual devotion of which I spoke above, please seek out a trainer to guide you and your dog back into harmony.
