🚨 Let’s Talk About HPP—and the FDA’s Mixed Signals 🚨

At Raw Pets® & Rawsome Pets & More, we’ve always stood against High Pressure Pasteurization (HPP). Not just because of what it does to food—but because of how it’s being pushed by regulators who won’t even define it.

Here’s the truth no one’s talking about:

The FDA demands raw pet food companies include a “kill step” like HPP…
👉 But they won’t define what HPP is for pet food
👉 They won’t approve validation studies, even when those studies show excellent results
👉 And they continue to raise the bar without offering a clear path for compliance

You’re told to play by the rules—but they won’t actually tell you what the rules are.

At the same time, raw food manufacturers are told—often in person by inspectors—that the only acceptable kill steps are HPP, cooking, or irradiation. That’s it. No room for nuance. No credit given for sourcing USDA-inspected, clean, humanely raised meat. Everyone is treated like a risk.

Let’s be clear: This isn’t about food safety. It’s about control.

And it’s exactly why Raw Pets® and Rawsome Pets will never carry HPP-treated food.

We believe food should be clean, minimally processed, and biologically appropriate.
We don’t believe in subjecting meat to 87,000 psi—a pressure so intense it crushes cellular structure, damages beneficial bacteria, and strips food of its natural function.

And it gets worse—HPP is performed while your pet’s food is still inside it’s packaging made of plastics. When applying extreme pressure it will cause plastics to leach phthalates and other chemical residues into the food.
