🐾 A Breeder Update From Our Hearts 🐾
I realize I haven’t posted an update in a while. It’s been an emotional and exhausting week here at Townsend Tzu.
Last Thursday, our sweet Cruella had to undergo a cesarean section. She delivered two beautiful babies, but heartbreakingly, we lost one. 💔 Because of everything she has been through, we’ve made the decision that Cruella will likely have only one, maybe two more litters before retirement.
Then came Elsa.
Elsa wasn’t due until Friday, but after her x-ray yesterday showed only two puppies—and both appearing quite large—we spent a lot of time praying, crying, and discussing what would be best for her and her babies. We made the difficult decision to schedule a cesarean for Wednesday.
But Elsa had other plans.
She went into labor last night and, by the grace of God, held on until this morning when her veterinarian opened. During the drive, she began actively pushing and labored for about an hour. After careful consideration, we proceeded with the cesarean—and thank goodness we did.
The little boy’s head was enormous compared to Elsa’s pelvic opening. There is no doubt in our minds that he would have become stuck during delivery. The surgery confirmed what we feared, and it reassured us that we made the right decision for both Elsa and her puppies.
These decisions are never easy.
As breeders, our mothers are never just part of a program. They are our babies first. Their health, safety, and well-being will always come before breeding plans, puppy demand, or future goals. Every single time.
Because of these recent events, we’ve had to make some difficult decisions about the future of our girls.
✨ Elsa will likely have only one, maybe two more litters, God willing.✨ Cruella will likely have only one, maybe two more litters before retirement.✨ Aurora’s next litter will likely be her last.✨ Nahla is also approaching retirement.
We know many families have been reaching out and waiting for puppies. Unfortunately, these litters were much smaller than expected, and our future availability from these girls will be very limited.
If you have been hoping for a puppy from Cruella, Elsa, Aurora, or Nahla, please don’t wait until puppies are announced. We strongly encourage you to join our waiting list. Several people who reached out recently were disappointed because they weren’t already on the list when puppies became available.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support our program, pray for our girls, and trust us with your future family members. We will always choose what is best for our moms and babies, even when it means making difficult decisions.
❤️ The health of our girls comes first. Always.
