Heads up HORSE PEOPLE! There is a push to sell the NEC. A push by a politician using this as a platform issue for election. Regardless of how you feel about the facility it is the ONLY facility big enough to handle many events in our area. This survey is being put out saying that the proceeds will be returned to the taxpayers. ? Many other facilities nationwide have been owned and run by state and local governments and are THRIVING. The NEC has been fighting an uphill battle of deferred maintenance. Run properly with customer service in mind the NEC could thrive as well. Each horse that comes to the show brings approximately 3 people who will patronize restaurants, hotels, shops and gas stations. Nobody is talking about the economic impact of how the NEC brings revenue to Lake St Louis and surrounding municipalities. See financial figures in comments. Our horse community is often divided, NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR THAT. We need to come together! Stop SELL THE BARN!
It has been brought to my attention that the NEC could be bought by a private entity. Yes that’s possible I suppose. I’m not concerned about the Family Arena. I don’t have a dog in that fight. I don’t think most horse people are when they hear this news. I think we can agree most horse people want to see the NEC stay an equestrian event center and NOT be developed.
Edit: Apparently two politicians are pushing for this as part of their campaigns: Jason Law and Bill Eigel.

It’s All About Balance āš–ļø

"I don’t think adult amateurs are given enough credit for all that they balance, especially when working full-time. Most have careers and families, but we carve out the time to spend with our horses to train, compete, or even just spend time with them. Sometimes that means very early hours or very late hours at the barn, not being able to participate in events that happen during working hours, and missing out on other fun things because of scheduling. "

Here, an adult amateur and USEF 'r' Technical Delegate from USDF Region 9 touches on a topic that many of us horse people are still trying to master: work and life balance.
