A taverna on a small island in the Cyclades has been refusing to seat tourists at one specific corner of a table for nearly three years, because the chair belongs to the cat.
His name is Stelios. He has sat in the same chair, at the same table, by the same window, for years.
The owner has posted a small hand-written card in Greek explaining that the chair is taken. Tourists who don't read Greek find out from the waiter, who explains while gesturing apologetically at Stelios. Stelios does not acknowledge them.
A French couple tried to move him last summer. Stelios let them. He walked outside, came back in through the kitchen door, jumped onto the table next to theirs, and watched them eat. They paid quickly and left.
