Family Friday - Meet the PacVet Family 💙 Surgery Department 🐾
👋 Meet Dr. Emilee Luckring. She grew up in Massillon, Ohio, and received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, in 2015, where she graduated summa cm laude. After Vet School, she completed a 1-year rotating internship at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Massachusetts before moving to Raleigh, North Carolina, to complete a 3-year residency in Small Animal Surgery from NC State University. Having always wanted to live along the stunning West Coast, she moved to California in 2019 and obtained board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in early 2020.✨
Dr. Luckring’s specific areas of surgical interest include cardiothoracic surgery, trauma and reconstructive surgery, oncologic surgery, as well as minimally invasive and interventional procedures.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Luckring enjoys spending time with her husband and their dog, Pyro 🐶, and cat, Frankenstein 🐈‍⬛. You can frequently catch her at local breweries and coffee shops, as well as trying new restaurants and cuisines. She loves live music, traveling, as well as hiking and exploring the beautiful state of California. ❤️

Meet Jonathan 💕
She came to see us a few months ago after a little outdoor adventure left her with a limp. Turns out she had a fracture along her femoral growth plate. This is an injury that only happens in young, growing pets. The fracture was surgically repaired, and we’re happy to share that at her final recheck this week, she’s fully healed and back on all fours! 🐾
Fun fact: Jonathan is a rare kind of female cat… can you guess why? 👀🐈

Meet sweet Kylie, an 11-year-old Australian Shepherd mix. She was seen by our ER service for not feeling well and was diagnosed with a right auricular mass and pericardial effusion.
An auricular mass is a growth on the outside of the heart that can bleed into the sac around the heart (pericardium). When too much fluid builds up in the pericardium, it puts pressure on the heart. This pressure prevents the heart from filling and pumping properly, which is an emergency because the heart cannot function effectively, leading to heart failure. 💔
Our ER team stabilized Kylie by draining the extra fluid in the pericardium.
Once stable, Kylie underwent a successful thoracoscopic surgery with Dr. Luckring and the surgery team, a minimally invasive surgery, done via small incisions and using a camera. Her auricular mass was removed, as well as a section of her pericardium. This surgery aims to relieve the pressure on the heart, prevent it from happening again, and treat the underlying cause.
Kylie is now home recovering from her procedure. Please join us in wishing her a speedy recovery. 🩷✨
