We’ll keep it short and sweet to avoid the FB warning this time.

The mindset should be your dog will do, what you allow it to. The simplest answer is always the best one. You can google 100 different answers for various things, it’s like typing symptoms into web md. But the best thing you can do to change behaviors that you don’t like is to change what you’re doing with your dog. Talk to a reputable trainer that can thoroughly answer your questions.

Those of you who have training understand this even more because you have communication and tools available to use but you still need to do what needs to be done and change the outlook from “they’re just not listening” to “what am I doing or not doing that is causing these issues”. In a world where we have everything at our fingertips the second we want it, we have to understand that dogs are thinking, living, breathing, instinctual animals, that take time and repetition. Can it be frustrating? Sure, that’s a part of the process. Just because something doesn’t work in a day immediately doesn’t mean we alter course and find a different answer than what’s been given. Trust the process, I still have to remind myself of that from time to time when I get a tough dog in. Slow down, take a breath, listen to the professional, and trust the process.

Ranger and Kronk who went home recently, nothing better than to hear that the process is working. Over 7 years in the game and every client that tells me they’re happy, still makes me happy and feel very fulfilled.

When we do “place” testing it’s typically during the hotter part of the day or as we’re winding down for the evening. We make sure that it can be held for multiple hours to help practice self control and make management in the home easier as needed.
